I am creating a new weapon and the weapon has no primary damage type. The weapon can be used for slashing and piercing. Could I have a weapon that does both? Would it be possible to have the player roll for what ever would be best in that occasion?
If there is any other way to do this type of damage type, please let me know
Unfortunately that’s not possible. Fortunately the difference between slashing and piercing is largely irrelevant this edition. The only things that care are a couple of oozes and trees and that’s it. Everything else treats the two damage types as interchangeable. That means you can simply choose one of the damage types and put that distinction in the text and it won’t make a whit of difference except for aesthetically.
The other thing you can do is talk to your DM about allowing different damage types if you actually describe the attack differently - slashing - swing the edge at the foe piercing - stab the foe with the tip/run the foe through bashing - slam the foe with the flat of the blade/pommel of the weapon
if the DM is willing this recognizes that swords and other bladed weapons actually have several damage types - but this can’t be put on the character sheet except as a note to yourself about wording attacks.
