Hi, I'm homebrewing a magic item modelled on something with a fairly extensive spell list. My player only has 4th level spell slots but the item it's modelled on has spells castable at higher levels than that - if I let them have access to the higher level spells now I'm worried it might end up a bit broken so I was wondering if anyone knows how to homebrew the item on dndbeyond in such a way to prevent them from having access to the higher level spells until they have the required level spell slot?
You would have to Homebrew a version without those spells attached. Magic items are designed to be agnostic of things like character level. Being able to cast spells beyond one’s normal capability is one of the cool benefits of magic items.
