So I'm looking to create some homebrew spells for my Druid and I need some help with the logistics.
Create Bone Golem
Xth level
You can sacrifice a number of undead you have created with the spell Animate Dead to create a Bone Golem.
You can only have one Golem at any time. A minimum of 3 undead must be sacrificed to create the Golem.
The golem gains X extra hit points per undead sacrificed above 3
Gain X extra damage per undead sacrificed above 3
Gain X AC per undead sacrificed above 3
What are your thoughts on this?
So things to go over:
Stat block. Could you add additional abilities that become available depending on how many undead are sacrificed?
Limitation. What should be the maximum amount of undead you can sacrifice to create the golem? Does it also increase its size the more you sacrifice?
What level should this be?
Pitcher Plant
Xth level
Summon a pitcher plant that spits caustic projectiles dealing X damage and leaving small 5 ft radius pools on the ground. When a creature enters a puddle for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there, it must make an X saving throw. It takes X damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of X level or higher, the damage increases by X for each slot level above X.
What are your thoughts on this?
So things to go over:
What range should the Pitcher Plant cover? Say you summon it and the plant can then spit within a 60 ft radius of itself?
Would this be concentration? or limited duration? For example, say it lasts 1 minute.
I think the impact of the spit would do more damage than the puddles.
My idea for this spell was that each turn it would get more punishing for the enemies.
For the Bone Golem spell, the answers really depend on what your statblock for the golem looks like. I don’t know if this will be of use to you, but I’ll let you know about it just in case: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters/692669-bone-golem). It’s based off of the 2e Bone Golem.
Partly the reason I need help with creating a stat block.
There needs to be an incentive to cast the spell. For example, 1 golem needs to outweigh the effectiveness of having 3 individual skeletons/zombies, and thats the difficult part I think.
That link I provided is to the statblock I created for a Bone Golem. It’s well worth 3 skeletons, and then some. Its got more than 50% more HP than 3 skeletons combined, has the same number of attacks as 3 skeletons, and has higher AC, Attack bonuses, and damage dice, as well as more immunities and no vulnerabilities.
