When I bought the legendary bundle I expected access with the character builder to the background features in all the books unlocked (specifically from OotA & HotDQ,) and the classes & variant features from Unearthed Arcana, (specifically the revised Ranger & feature variants.)
Well, as Dickens pointed out, great expectations are a prerequisite to great disappointment.
It has occurred to me i COULD get digital access with the character creator by using the homebrew edit template function as a workaround, cloning & manually copying the missing items, but I'm wary about crossing that plagiarism line. And of course I don't want to waste the time & effort if it would constitute clear copyright infringement.
So, input? If I'm not trying to make any money by doing this and if I write it up I'll give full credit, but does it cross the line?
I am confused a bit. If you are an owner of the legendary bundle, you should have access to all the character options, even those coming from adventure modules. The contrary is for UA material. UA is generally free, but only the most recent (non-archived) material is available.
I think the bug with the background features is that they're Not backgrounds, they're just features to substitute for your background features-which means the system doesn't recognize them.
The particular background features I'm looking at are very similar but not exactly the same as a couple in the PH. "Deep Delver" is an underdark version of the outlander feature, and "Dragon Scholar" is obviously a knockoff of the Sage background feature, but as with deep delver, both have different bonuses related to their specialty.
The obvious solution is to make them as variant features for those two backgrounds.
Huge DoH! On my workaround for the revised Ranger- there's no homebrew class create, only subclasses.
You can word-for-word copy feats/features/whatever and create them as homebrew options without worrying about copyright issues, as long as, and this is the important part, you don't publish the creations. Other players in your campaigns have access to your homebrew collection, even if there are unpublished creations in them.

Revised Ranger is dead. R.I.P. Que taps.
The Class Feature Variants are so complex that they haven’t been implemented yet. We’re still waiting.

Thank you for your replies. I suppose that leaves me with something to work with anyway.
