Hello all! I’m trying to give the PHB and XGE sorcerers a feature similar to the feature that Clockwork and Aberrant sorcerers where they are granted extra spells at specific levels. I know how to do this in completely homebrew subclasses but I’d like to do this with the purchased classes (I own the Player’s Bundle). How can I implement this?
The same way basically. Make a subclass using one of the ones you want to tweak as a template.
Expand the Class Features section, count* how many features that subclass grants at 1st level, then click/tap the [ADD A CLASS FEATURE] button.
Fill out the form:
Name: [Origin] Spells
Snippet: An abridged version of the description here.
Description: (The “blahblah” is up to you, the easiest way to add the table is to copy/paste one from something else. The spells you list in the table should be the ones you want to add, but keep in mind those spells must either be free access content, or they have to come from sources you own.) ^Most subclasses with a feature like this add 2 spells per level.
Required Class Level: 1
Display Order: *(whatever you counted +1)
Feature Type: Granted
[CREATE VLASS FEATURE]
Scroll down to the “Spells” section, expand it and click/tap the [ADD A SPELL] button.
Fill out the form:
Name: (any 1st-level spell of your choice)^
Ability Score: Cha
Consumes Spell Slot: Yes
Counts as Known: No
Available at Class Level: 1st^
[SAVE]
^There are typically two spells of each of the following:
1st-level spells at 1st level
2nd-level spells at 3rd level
3rd-level spells at 5th level
4th-level spells at 7th level
5th-level spells at 9th level
Go back and double check that the spells you added are the same ones you listed in the table. If not, edit your table. [SAVE]
Navigate to the Basic Information section for the subclass, expand the Class Features section again, and start editing the class features one at a time to adjust their Display Orders to accommodate the new feature you just shoehorned in at 1st level.
Once those are all saved, go back to the Basic Information section, copy/paste the description from the official version as both the “description” and “short description,” change the name to “[Origin] (Revised)” (or something similarly suitable)
[SAVE CHANGES] (This MUST always be the last thing you hit so the system actually picks everything up.)
That’s all she wrote, you’re done. Keep doing that until you’ve updated them all for yourself. Don’t ever publish them though, that’s against the rules.
A final piece of advice, do yourself a favor and purchase the spells from both Xanathar’s and Tasha’s and the Sorcerer Origins from Xanathar’s too. If you haven’t purchased access to the Origins from Xanathar’s then you will have to recreate those from scratch. And if you haven’t purchased those spells from the two books, you won’t be able to use them for your new Class features. (Some of the spells in Xanathar’s were published for free in Elemental Evil, so you will have access to those, but not the rest unless you purchase them.)
I hope that helps.
PS- This is neither a Bug, nor a Support issue. There is an entire forum specifically for folks to ask questions like this and get help like that.
