I love the series The Magicians, may times characters in the show have used a spell that they make a gesture and cut, pierce or push an opponent with no associated "elemental" or visible strike being made. So I took that idea and I made this: Arcane Strike
Im considering changing the name to "magical strike" considering the inspirational source
Looks pretty good. What is really interesting about this cantrip is that because it deals bludgeoning/piercing/slashing damage, someone using it could boost its power by taking one of the new feats from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything (Crusher, Piercer, Slasher) which only specify "when you make an attack that deals _____ damage." So a player could use one of the feats to further empower a version of the cantrip, allowing it to push, pierce, or grievously wound opponents as well

I would go with “Magicians‘ Strike” (I love that show, the episode where Eliot and Margo had talk in code to obfuscate their discussion from the fairies was hilarious.)
Most of those 60-ft. Ranged, d8 damage cantrips have an additional rider attached, like a speed reduction from Ray of Frost for example. I feel like this should either have a rider like that, or have a better range and damage die or something. Just an observation.
To me the choice of damage is the rider. There are things that have vulnerability to some of those types the ability to change the damage each casting I think is big. And its magical damage so very few if anything resists or is immune to magical bludgeoning. slashing or piercing damage so to me the d8 at 60 feet is the sweet spot.
I updated the name and after a bit more thought I made it somatic only since all the instances of it in the show are just somatic/Popper 23 so time thing like that lol
Technically speaking, there is no such thing as “magical damage” in 5e. There is “damage from magical/nonmagical sources,” and all spells are considered “magical sources of damage.”
That’s a fair point about being able to swap damage types, but the instances where damage type actually matter are rather few and far between (skeleton, black pudding, etc.). If you’re happy with it though then rock socks. 👍
In the show magic missile is a different spell, it’s a dagger like projectile. This is based on the spell that Alice used to cut the bottle with in Remedial Battlemagic, the Beast used to cut Pennys hands off, and several others used throughout the series.

In the book its magic missile, just FYI. They actually, literally call it that, and then admit they stole the name from D&D.
In the show magic missile is a different spell, it’s a dagger like projectile. This is based on the spell that Alice used to cut the bottle with in Remedial Battlemagic, the Beast used to cut Pennys hands off, and several others used throughout the series.
Thematically, would it be better to make this a Dex save based cantrip and maybe upping the damage to a d10?
I'd keep it as a d8, since magical BPS is less resisted than force.
I have a weird sense of humor.
