'Ah, mortals. Pitiful, prideful, powerless. A human could not live a day in the shoes of a god, yet a god could not live a day in the shoes of a man.'
~ Qualisha, Goddess of Quotes
Welcome to the Pantheon. Here you will play as a deity who controls a particular object, aspect or thing, a demi-god child of one of said deities, or a regular mortal, existing amongst the turmoil of this god-ruled world. The deities seek to rule the world in balance, perhaps sow a bit of chaos, squabble amongst each other or even reveal themselves to the mortal world if they feel like it. A demi-god may seek to act as a messenger in the mortal world for their parent deity, or has no interest in their parent and simply wants to live a life like any other. A mortal has a free and open road ahead of them; whilst not burdened with being a deity or the child of one, their paths may likely cross with the divine. They can choose to fight against them, worship them for power, or ignore them and forge their own path. The choice is yours!
Playing as a Deity
- Although a deity may seem the strongest of the options you can play, it has the strictest rules. - They are tied to a domain based on one niche thing, object, aspect or concept in general; this gives them magical powers to do with said thing. - Examples of these powers include: Summoning said thing, if it can be, controlling it, animating it, spells relating to it and so on. - If a deity is slain, their killer inherits their domain, title, status and godhood. - When creating a deity, please keep their domain specific and niche. If you want to control 'fire' you must make it less broad. Do you control ash? Campfires? Heat? Furnaces? You can do nearly anything, just make sure it is kept specific! - You are constrained to your domain; you cannot use abilities, skills or powers outside of it. So, if you are the God of Bowls, you cannot learn to use a sword as it is outside your primal alignment. - Your domain cannot change, so choose wisely!
Playing as a Demi-God
- You are the child of a deity and a human. You therefore follow some of the restrictions of gods whilst having some versatility like a human does. - You are also tied to a domain based on one niche thing, object, aspect or just concept in general, which must be the same as your parent deity. You do not need to play or have the deity already exist in order to play a demi-god; they can simply be backstory if you wish. - You get more minor, innate powers relating to your domain, being that you can summon said thing associated with the domain (if that can be done) and control it. You cannot loose these powers, or change them, unlike a mortal. - As a half-human you also have the gift of versatility. Whilst a god is restrained to their lofty domain and it's abilities, you can adapt your skill set, learn new things and develop strengths as you wish, with enough training.
Playing as a Mortal
- You get full license on who your character is and what they can do. - If they worship a deity, they may inherit some partial control over their deity's domain focus, though if their worship falters these abilities fade. - You can change the deity that you worship as much as you want, although rumours of lack of loyalty spreads quickly through the Pantheon, so you may not get as many abilities from new patrons if you are consistently changing, since they may doubt how long you will worship and if the powers are worth giving. - You can learn pretty much any regular ability and pick up skills as you wish.
Please stick to forum rules, roleplay in good faith, listen to the instructions of mods, if you have any questions just ask, and don't use your powers in a way that is OP! This especially goes for deities, but hopefully you should be able to gauge what is reasonable, and what is not. If you do make a mistake with this however, a mod will kindly let you know!
[That was a partial inspiration lol, whilst I haven't played on it, it's obviously very successful and I sort of wanted to capture part of that vibe, whilst keeping my sort of thread style! I hope we get some players, and I hope you enjoy!]

*out of curiosity, what is the world like right now to start out? Barren, just starting, or already full of live and great kingdoms? Somewhere in between?*
[Probably should have put this in the initial post, but with the setting, I'm happy and planning for it to naturally be developed by the players. I think after very few posts, there will be a general vibe for the place which will only diversify and develop further as the thread continues, though I'd imagine it's developed enough for people to be widespread, yet things are still sparsely populated, mainly villages and countryside with perhaps one or two major cities per country or region, though I'm unsure whether this will take place on a whole world scale yet, we'll just have to see! As for time period, that too is flexible. I don't mind if people want to bring in more modern or even futuristic elements and have that be grounded in a god's domain, as it's entirely reasonable for medieval/renaissance peasants to have chainsaws if the God Of Chainsaws and his three sons literally created that village!]
A bit always from a dirt path, which leads to the nearest small town of Caneshire, covered in snow and in frozen leaves, is a small campsite. A few logs around a fire, where a pot is cooking something up, which smells delicious. There is only one person at the camp, a teenage boy, it seems, dressed in furs and warm clothing. His hair… seems not to be hair, but instead a swirl of whipped cream, and he has antlers, only about four inches tall, made of chocolate wafer sticks. His nose is red and runny, and he’s sipping a drink from a flask, piping hot despite the inhospitable weather.
[I'm porting a lot of posts concerning deities over from Onions since there's been some great questions there, but deities are immortal, so can't die of disease or old age, but through various methods, mortals can access them, (i.e. deep worship, dying and going to the afterlife, finding a place of awe where the heavens and the earth blend, like atop a mountain) and when they are there, they can then try and kill any deities they encounter, albeit with a lot of effort. Likewise, if a deity descends to the mortal world, they are just as, if not more, susceptible to mortal attacks! And, of course, deities can kill deities, in which place the slain deities best worshipper or strongest demi-god ascends to their place!]

Ok but what if you sharpened a bowl to resemble a sword

*How about a Deity of the Hunt. They represent the lone hunter tracking down the largest and most dangerous prey, and teach their followers to be the most dangerous, primal predators while also honoring and respecting the natural order. For at any point the hunter can become prey should they not continue to hone their skills and challenge themselves. Many who walk the path of a Barbarian, Ranger, or Druid can honor the Lord of the Grand Hunt, the great Primal Beast.*

I also had a fun idea that every year or maybe a few years there is an event where the Primal Beast sends out an aspect of himself and tasks his followers to hunt this aspect down. If one hunter or a small group can take the aspect down within a certain amount of time, the hunters in question are granted a grand boon from the Lord of the Grand Hunt. This is also how the Primal Beast choses his Champion or High Priest, only they must face a more power Avatar to achieve their titles.*
