Welcome to the out of character thread. Please ask any remaining questions you have about the campaign or character creation here. I expect it will take a couple of days before we have everything in order to start an in character thread. As for Characters proper.
You may use DND beyond or any other accurate stat roller to determine your race and starting equipment. Anything non-magical should be fine. We’ll ignore carry weight for now, within reason. One set of armor and main weaponry is proper. Please post your final level 5 character here written out to include equipment, HP, AC, spells, the good stuff.
Assign whatever DND race you think makes sense in place of your character’s actual canon race (variants from past games included). After the characters start rolling in, I’ll give you even MORE fun bonuses based on your character race and possibly your background if you’re creative. Which brings me to my final point in character creation.
Writing, dialogue, and storytelling is my main goal. Stats are fun and all, but they’re really there to make combat and gameplay just a little unpredictable, as opposed to rule the narrative. So please frame your character sheet as follows.
Character Name: (given names and titles if applicable)
Class: (dnd class, subclass, and relevant names you might have come up with for your specific character)
Background: (at least three paragraphs, including where your character grew up and how they defend themselves in the wild. Skip meeting the rest of the group for now.)
Then below this information include your DND stats and items. Any questions?
Half Elf, Horizon Walker Ranger and Archeological Expeditionary Scout.
Alignment:Lawful Good
Gender:Male
Eyes:Green
Height:5’ 8” Hair:Dirty blonde
Skin:Fair
Age:26
Weight:150lb.
I grew up in Hateno village. I learned the basics of hunting in the Midla and Gunner Woods. I learned the arts of stealth and archery and began to roam further and further from the village, eventually seeing fort Hateno for myself.
The ruins of the fort inspired me to venture farther and farther afield, searching out and exploring evert ruin I could and learning about who built them. I eventually became a well known guide and scout for archeological adventures, as well as a skilled cartographer.
As I delved into these ruins I began to sense a slight shift in the world around me whenever evil creatures began to appear nearby. It isn’t a sense I can describe exactly. Just a sense of something on the horizon, urging me to caution.
So I am debating my level 4 feat, I currently have sharpshooter, but I am also considering the alert, observant and dungeon delver feats. Any opinions?
Ougden was a simple tradesman who had the good fortune to encounter a wizard named Nert while traveling through the forests in his home country. Nert was an old wizard who was interested in the world’s religions and mythologies, a subject that Ougden was knowledgable in.
After a few conversations, Nert offered Ougden the opportunity to learn from him and to study magic under him. Ougden accepted, and eventually became a wizard in his own right. He left his home country to travel the world and to study the rich diversity of the world’s belief systems.
He has encountered and studied the various deities of the human world, and is a promising student of the arcane arts. Ougden is an expert in illusion and transmutation magics because of the way that the mind is so influential in a being’s perception of the world.
He is always on the lookout for new beliefs and new magics. Ougden has journeyed to the Western Kingdoms to research the new gods of the land.
Personality:
Ougden is a gentle soul who tries to understand others. He is a man of many words, yet he is a deep thinker who ponders the weight of the world.
Appearance:
Ougden is small in stature, but he is deeply intelligent. He is long-haired and wears a beard. He is usually wearing a deep blue robe. He wears a ring on his right hand.
Mk so that's the basic sheet. imma upgrading it for my detailed liking and because I over detail, welp time to see if there is a character limit here. Name: Esi (loner) Race: Hylian (the standard race in LoZ) Alignment: LN Gender: Female Eyes: Green Height:5’ 5" Hair: Dark brown Skin: tanned from the sun Age: 25 Weight:120lb. Class: Ranger-fighter muti if allowed and I want to call it Scout if that's ok, hunter (they are pretty similar and I end up pairing them both most times and I got no books on this site as for my rule) Background: (three paragraphs min ok so I'm gonna use three pages and hyper detail and some exploits for you two) Esi grew up in Hateno Village which managed to survive the onslaught of monsters that rose from the Cal's influence over the land. protected within the walls Esi found most of her inspiration from the guards that protected her livelihood, so when she reached the age to be able to start training she took the chance. the training was for both Physical and Mental strength in different areas and she found that her strong willpower and endurance means she could become a great guard but from more training, she would have made an even better scout so she became one.
being a scout isn't easy. first of all, you need to always be prepared, being in unknown territory is risky and you are always at risk of being ambushed. Second, you need to be fast and have good endurance, you could be travelling far away and night is a bad time to be out in the open with Cal's monsters roaming the land. Esi knew these risks but being a scout is Vital to the village and she knew that. While in her training for being a Scout she met up with another trainee who thinks a lot like her in terms of importance but with differences. she soon befriended the trainee. They often worked together and ended up being put on the same Scout team. They were quite effective in their missions but one separated them when they got ambushed by a group of lizardfolk. they fought them off but the friend didn't make it she died the next morning from blood loss. this deeply affected Esi as that person was her deepest friend in the force. soon after beating the news, she set off on her mission to avenge her friend so she set out.
after packing up for her mission, she left her village, there she was on her own in the wilderness. Her scout training helped her to survive but now and again she got ambushed and she suffered some harm. after a week of being on her own, she decided to try to improve her skills with archery and swordsmanship to lessen the risk of injury. She set up her training area in an old ruin where there are some book goblins set up in a camp she could farm for her skill improvement. this worked to improve her skill and reduced the risk of injuries she gets from combat. she then left the ruins and went on her way to find all the lizardfolk and kill them all for revenge for her fallen friend. (do you like it, I spend a few hours on her creation so it better be worth it)

Ougden, unfortunately would not be allowed in this roleplay. If you would like to play a gnome-like character, I’ve been thinking a fairy would be appropriate. You could shapeshift from a very small tinker-bell size form to the full gnome-height at different periods. Let me know if you’re okay making a character that fits the legend of Zelda theme.

And there goes my fairy I started building… Plan C then
Ummm… so we have 2 ranger scouts from Hateno? Guess I will switch
There’s no reason to switch, unless you want to. I have no problem with multiple characters having the same class, especially since Purplepotato has multi classed into fighter. On the contrary, it could be better for the story on account of the fact that your characters could know each other. All the more reason to start the story from Hateno, or at least the south east. Alter your character however you want, regardless. In addition mechanically, if you both pick “monster” as a favored enemy/prey type your squad will end up doing a lot of damage during monster hunting missions (the bulk of the campaign, likely)

Esi looks just about perfect. Would you mind in the future, not making videogame-esc references to stats or mechanics during the narration? Just so it reads more like a book than a dnd game. We’ll make rolls/mechanics outside of the main story chat.
So I am debating my level 4 feat, I currently have sharpshooter, but I am also considering the alert, observant and dungeon delver feats. Any opinions?
Any would be fine, but I could get creative with the dungeon delver feat working into certain missions if you took that. It depends on what you think fits your character best at the end of the day. I think sharpshooter fits your emphasis on hunting vs combat like Esi
sorry i do that a lot in my explanation i will restrict the mentions and try to reword to make it sound not so videogamey.

Backstory: Conmin was the son of a traveler and a philandering maiden in Kakariko village. After the traveler left the maiden and baby, the mother fell grievously ill, and the baby would have died if he hadn't been found by a nearby thieves guild, who took him in and trained him to be one of them. Now Conmin wanders the streets, taking from travelers and merchants, barely surviving.
Personality: Conmin is a charismatic, charming young man that flatters you into a false sense of security, then takes what he pleases. With his friends however he is a grave, sad, and self-loathing man, who masks it by making self-depricating jokes and doing crazy stunts, half-hoping that he will die in the process.
Bonds: Conmin is forever grateful to the thieves guild for saving his life. But when he isn't stealing he is watching one of the women in his village, for he has developed a crush for her, but he has not worked up the nerve to talk to her yet. One of his greatest desires is to kill the man who helped birth him, for abandoning him and his mother.
Ideals: One day man will die, civilizations will crumble and become the earth, and the world will die, so you better have a hell of a time while you still can.
Flaw: If I see something shiny, I can't help but take it.
