I am recruiting a group to play through a short, home-brew one shot using my 10 room dungeon design (based off the 5 room dungeon by Johnn Fourr). The game will be run here on DDB, with an in game thread in the PBP forum and an OOC thread in PMs. The premise of the game is as follows:
The land of Zelurn (zee - learn) is plagued by many difficult things. Famine, disease, corruption, invasions. Times are hard, for the gods have cursed the land, after great transgressions performed by the people in the past. But, now that society is crumbling, the common folk cry out to the divine, and this time, the gods answered. They told the people that if they wished to be saved, send a group of champions into the legendary Tomb of the Divine, a deadly crypt housing the long forgotten king the people worshipped as an idol, and steal the treasure. If that could be done, then the land would be free of it's many plights. So, the current lord, King Valoorius (va - lore - ee - us), searched far and wide for the greatest heroes of the land. And they found you. Now, you must infiltrate the tomb and claim it's treasure, while still making it out alive.
If that hook sounds interesting, read the character creation rules and apply below
Character Creation Rules:
All non home-brew materials on DDB are allowed to create your character with
Roll stats in this thread. Re-roll ones always. If you don't like your stats, tough luck bud. Make 'em work
Start your character at level 11. Feel the power! And multi-classing is allowed and encouraged!
If your background does not grant a bonus feat, then choose one feat that fits your background and backstory and it to your character sheet.
You can have 1 very rare magic item, 2 rare magic items, or 3 uncommon magic items, as well as starting equipment or starting gold (your choice). In addition, you can also have one expensive, nonmagical item of your choice.
Application Format:
Character Name and Pronouns: please try to have a serious name, and all pronouns, genders, and sexualities are welcome here.
Character Race and Sub-race (if applicable)
Character Class(es) and Sub-class(es)
Character Background and Bonus Feat
Character Backstory: it won't matter too much, but 1 to 2 paragraphs is still good if you want.
Character Sheet: must be on DDB! No exceptions
Character Art/Description (optional!): Can be a written paragraph, a hero forge, or anything else.
Character Equipment: what magic items did you choose, and what was your expensive, nonmagical thing?
Recruitment will end August 16, and I will be accepting seven players. If you have any questions, let me know!
Character Race Goliath or if I can access material, Bugbear
Character Class: Fighter, level 11 (for now?)
Character Background : Pirate/ bounty hunter:
and Bonus Feat: Maybe Lucky, or Gift of the metallic dragon.
Character Backstory:
Madmardigyn (aka, Mad) has earned a reputation as a bounty hunter, pirate, and smuggler of ill repute. He has spent his days, developing his combat skills, and his nights...well, making good coin. In a land where only the resourceful survive, he has found several sources of income. A bounty hunter now by trade he can be an enforcer for the jobs the local authorities don't want to handle, finding those who have upset enough of those with coin to hire him. He also has a smuggling operation and has been able to sneak people and things when needed. He is known to be a resourceful but somewhat rough man, but has never failed on a contract. Most don't mess with the ill-tempered goliath, as his skill with sword is only second to his huge temper. Mad has never met a sword he did not like, or an axe he could not wield. He often engages in single combat against other foes for sport or money, finding worthy foes, always trying to improve his skills. A huge tankard of ale sits half-full at his table, as dribbles of beer spill down his black beard. As usual, he often does not pay for the food and drink in taverns he chooses to visit. But, like a friendly bouncer, most innkeepers don't mind as he often will throw out those in the place that "disturb" him, and they certainly would not want to arouse his ire.
Mad is surprised when he is approached in the bar by the emissaries of the king, King Valoorius. For some reason beyond his understanding, they have designated him as a hero. "hah!" He is just a salty man with a bad attitude. Hey, but if treasure is involved, and if the king will pardon the crimes he has been allegedly accused of committing, why not. One tomb is no different from the next, traps, dead things, treasure. All the same to him.
(Will update as I build)
Character Equipment: Not sure yet, but possibly Belt of Giant Strength, maybe cloak of protection, waiting for content sharing. Plate Armor. Item of value: A galleon (but don't know what it would be worth, would be cool if he owned a ship (for smuggling operations, etc.)
7 players sounds a lot for a 10 room dungeon, but that just makes me feel like it's gonna be a challenge!
Character Name and Pronouns: Lord Victor Slaybeast, He/Him Character Race: Yuan-Ti Character Class(es) and Sub-class(es): Sorcerer (Divine Soul) 6 & Paladin (Oath Of Glory) 5 Character Background and Bonus Feat: Charlatan and Actor Character Backstory: Victor Slaybeast is not his real name. In fact, it's a pseudonym of a pseudonym of a pseudonym that he's used over years of conning people, and chances are, he probably doesn't even remember his real name. See, when Victor was born, angel's songs rang out across the land and they then descended from the sky, raising him into the air and blessing him with wonderous powers to forever protect the kingdom with. Or at least that's what Victor says happens, in fact he was born in a poor and squalid Yuan-Ti settlement, and grew up as a con artist to eventually wiggle his way up into the higher echelons of society, with a little* help from the divine powers he definitely does not deserve.
In his adult life, Victor became an adventurer, fighting under the noble guise of somebody wanting the best for everybody, rather than somebody wanting coin and fame. His fake-it-till-you-make-it mentality led him to become an actually competent and famous adventurer who managed to worm his way into the nobility, getting rather close to King Valoorius, meaning he was the first to be chosen for this quest, whether he wants to or not.
*He would be nothing without his powers Character Sheet: Hasn't been made yet since I'd like to use options I don't have, so will make in campaign when content sharing is enabled! Character Equipment: Sun Blade and a Cloak of Displacement. He also has a pure gold hand mirror with his smiling face engraved on the back of it.
I spent ages just on this so really hope I do get picked, good luck to everyone though!
Character Background and Bonus Feat: Folk Hero; Squat Nimbleness
Character Backstory: Nesralla came from a family of miners, from whom she learned the value of physical strength and hard work. While taking volunteer shifts as a town guard, she practiced combat skills, eventually establishing herself as the mountain town's chief protector. She gained moderate renown when vampire spawn attacked her town, taking up residence in the mine and attacking the residents. The other dwarves looked to Nesralla for help and she rose to the occasion. One by one, she slayed each vampire spawn with a flaming sword, and took a magic cape from their leader as her prize. Her heroics earned her free drinks for life at the many taverns in her hometown. Word of her feat reached King Valoorius, who later called on her to venture into the Tomb of the Divine. Nesralla jumped at the opportunity to serve her king and possibly bring prosperity to the land; she plans to return home after the quest is over.
Character Art/Description: Nesralla has soft features and a strong build for a dwarf. Her hair is black, her beard gray. While adventuring, she wears plate armor that her cousin made, a dark cape, and uses a sword. She has a cheerful demeanor and a competitive streak.
Character Race and Sub-race (if applicable) Air Genasi
Character Classand Sub-class: Rogue, Phantom
Character Background and Bonus Feat: Archaeologist, Dungeon Delver
Character Backstory: Whisper has always been curious about the past and has dedicated his life to exploring every relic he can find. The fact that most of his discoveries can be sold to eccentric collectors for high prices, is just how he does business. Occasionally, he donates his findings if the cursed object really shouldn't be on display.
Character Equipment: 2 rare (Rogue's Mantle and Starshot Light Crossbow), expensive non-magical thing (Purple Worm Poison or studded leather armor if that is too crazy)
Backstory SIlas was raised by his church as a hunter of monsters, specifically those that blended into humanoid society and tried to corrupt and control it from within. He did his job with efficient brutality, until one day he was involved in the murder of a village of shifters. He had a crisis of faith and left his church. He has recently started serving a new faith and wants to do good to make up for his past.
Backstory: His first memory was awakening in a pine box. The air was cold, and the world was silent, but he stirred nonetheless. His first obstacle was escaping. Fear and panic quickly set into his predicament, eventually leading to the realization that he was in a grave, properly tended and dug deep. His first true breath was upon breaking the surface of the earth and drawing air through freezing rain. Doman was spawned in death, born of burial earth as a babe from its mother's womb, though not necessarily free of worldly attachment or memory. His life had just begun, leaving behind whatever he'd been before, though memories linger. Had he been a soldier? An assassin? A merchant? Whatever his past was, it's was gone now, and only his skills remained, burgeoned by a font of magic he was certain he did not have before.
Character Class and Sub-class: Wizard (school of conjuration) artificer (artillist)
Character Background and Bonus Feat: Sage; rune shaper
Character Backstory: Vix always had a fascination with magic items, at an early age he taught himself magic and soon left his small town to further study as an artificer. Eventually, he found he had a talent for creating weapons. As he traveled from library to temple, his vast knowledge led him to become obsessed with rune magic. Using Rune magic, he made research dedicated to biology and artificial life, creating his life long companion, a humanoid amphibian with tentacles for arms, Squiggle the Homonculus. He later decided to get into Fiend hunting, biologically modifying them. In almost any field of research, Vix dominated it despite being considered extremely young for his level of knowledge. Vix is a prodigy and genius.
Character Art/Description: Vix is tall skinny, standing at around 6'2 and weighing about 95 Ibs. He has short, blonde hair, and goggles above his eyes, his eyes are a bright blue, and he wears a beige coat over a white shirt and black pants. Most notably, he seems incredibly young, looking 25 at most
Character Equipment: Ring of free action, Sage’s Signet and a bomb
Character Name and Pronouns: Darrak Ironfist (He/Him)
Character Race and Sub-race: Duergar
Character Class and Sub-class: Gloomstalker Ranger (3)/ Way of Shadow Monk (8) (I don't think I have ever played a mutliclass before, though I have made some. Seeing as it is recommended I thought why not. Starting class for starting equipment purposes is Monk)
Character Background and Bonus Feat: Hermit - Alert/Mobile (one as the bonus, the other in the place of an ASI. On the builder Mobile is the bonus but isn't too important which way they go)
Character Backstory: Darrak didn't fit in with the other Duergar. He had morals, he had emotions, and he didn't like his leader. Due to this, he left his clan as soon as he was able to. They tried to hunt him down, but he was adept at hiding in the dark and they couldn't find him, even when they tried. He didn't want to hurt any of his old clan, however evil they might be, so he moved closer to the surface. He likes the dark so he still stayed in caves, but he would very rarely go to a nearby town or settlement to trade with them if he needed something, otherwise staying to himself. Unfortunately he wasn't the only one who wished to stay in the caves. Kobolds and goblinoids regularly tried settling in the same ones as him, but he became used to their tactics and could sometimes clear out a whole clan of them by himself (favoured enemies). This earned him respect from the villages that found these clans to be a threat and so word made it to the king of the dark dwarf who silently protects the people from underground threats.
Character Equipment:Cloak of Displacement and Bracer of Flying Daggers. I am not sure about an expensive item as there isn't really anything. Maybe a mount? Moorbounder would possibly fit with the backstory (silent hunter) or else a warhorse
