You are an orphan of the war brought to the city of Zenderhelm by the White Refuge, a clerical aid group that heals the wounded of the Empire’s wars, heals the sick of the plague ridden in the outer lands, and sometimes charitably rescues orphans from the ruins of villages plundered by the Empire’s mercenaries.
Zenderhelm is the Capital of the Empire, however, their vicious expansion has not gone unnoticed. As the campaign begins, it becomes public knowledge that the Emperor has been assassinated, and the enemies of the Zenderhelm Empire are massing on all sides.
This is a long term campaign for first level players. It is an opened ended sandbox with a political clock that marches forward regardless of your actions, until you become powerful enough to intervene in its machinations, that is.
There are multiple factions lead by high level NPCs seeking control over Zenderhelm. Which will you side with? Which will become your bitter rivals and adversaries? And when the invasion of Zenderhelm begins, will you make it out alive?
If you would like to apply to this game, post your character below. Please note that all characters should start out between the ages of 12 and 18.
Very interested in this game! Are we creating characters with stats - if so what guidelines do you have? Are we using the 2024 rules? Roll ability scores or standard array? Any modifications due to us being kids? Or do you just want character concepts for now?
Got a character that might fit: An orphan and a former army drummer boy - now a Warlock. As a young goliath, he looks older than he is... Mavoi Dreamwatcher
So, without re-rolling 1s at all, I'll take 10, 13, 13, 14, 17, 17. Working a halfling bard who uses his cooking skills as a cover (and I'm going to try and flavor his spells through food and drinks =) "Oh, you're not feeling well? Here, try this chicken soup I have in a thermos." - Cure Wounds)
Nice, looks like I’ll be going with 11, 11, 12, 13, 13 and 15 which is a pretty good spread to have before modifiers are applied! Should we use 2014 or 2024 rules?
apparently dropping lowest of 4 rolls on the second set doesn't work... they actually should be 16 & 13. The first set was used using the dice roller ability score tab.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
It unusual to find games for kid characters. I've run one as an interlude using NPC kids that the main team has picked up and trained, but that's not the same thing.
There is a 12 year old character from a Web Novel I would like to play, from the story "I Was a Sword When I Reincarnated"
Fran was a young slave, who was ordered to fight a monster (along with all the other slaves, to buy time for the slave master to run away). Fran heard a sword stuck in the ground calling to her, when she pulled the sword out of the ground, she was granted skills and magic.
The character in the story has too many abilities to match them all in D&D, But the background of Hexblade Warlock is that you're granted power by a sentient sword. So I'll go with that.
Kaylan doesn't like remembering his childhood, which is a jumble flash of bloodshed and terror, then being sold by slavers to a strange old man. The man was an old wizard, Larx Nordrisk, had a sudden need to pass on a legacy, any legacy really, to satisfy the condition of a deal he had made with a strange entity in his past. He failed to do so before he passed away, but young man traveled to various places for a coupe, of years and managed finished his apprenticeship as a wizard. Along he set up with a traveling group of dwarves who were finishing up a contract to build roads and watch towers for a lord of the Empire, where he finished some training as architect and as a cartographer.
He was allowed to take the surname Ironcrag, the clan name of the group that helped him to survive his childhood. With a new surname, he is now off to figure out how to survive in this hostile world with this group he has fallen in with.
Calligrapher's Supplies - Concise writing is important for both mapping and wizardly activities, like creating scrolls!
Cartographer Tools - when building roads and making safeholds, good to be able to read a map and make new ones!
Carpenter's & Mason's tools - The basic skills needed when building shelter, furniture and improving roads.
Smith's tools - Someone has to be able to make the nails, horseshoes and repair the tools.
Vehicles (Land) - See! I told you we'd need nails and horseshoes! Why carry everything on your back when you can build a wagon!
Painter's supplies - well, you see, it started off just painting Walls of buildings and signs for the workers to know where everything was at... but I discovered I have a talent for murals and mosaics.
Backstory: “Trust no one.” Those were the last words Alexander heard from his father. Alex does not know who killed his family, just that he was the only survivor. It was shortly after that that Alex heard about the Emperor's assassination. His last name holds no purpose anymore so he has discarded it and resolved himself to find a way to survive.
Alex was raised in a small noble house. He was always in the library study or out with any guard that would train him. His personality always shines through and was able to make friends with anyone that would take to him. From a young age he was able to turn his strong emotions into power. That power could heal or harm others so Alex wished to help others when he was an adult. Now those memories are a story Alex wishes to never tell others. Once happy memories are just filled with sorrow. Alex is driven by his conviction and desire to survive. As he knows very well one cannot survive without allies so he will search for others he can trust.
