In one of my sessions I had an area of anti magic that prevented any casting of spells that my players avoided. The cleric while outside of the zone cast spiritual weapon. When he indicated he was going into the anti magic zone, I warned him that the spiritual weapon, which was not in the anti magic zone, would disappear and need to be recast when he stepped out of the anti magic zone. He argued against that since the weapon was not going into the magic zone and I ruled that if he loses contact with his magic while in the anti magic zone, so to would he lose his connection to spiritual weapon, even if it is not a concentration spell. Seems reasonable to me, but I am new to d&d.
The moment the spiritual weapon came in contact with the anti-magic zone it would vanish.
As it is not a concentration spell, whether the cleric is inside or outside the influence of the anti-magic zone would have no effect.
However, it could be argued that the spiritual weapon would cease actions while the cleric is in the anti-magic field. Using your force of will, connection to the divine magic, or however you wish to describe it, would be severed making it impossible to use the weapon. The spiritual weapon would simply float in the last spot it was in until the cleric stepped out of the anti-magic field.
As it is not a concentration spell, whether the cleric is inside or outside the influence of the anti-magic zone would have no effect.
To be super clear, Antimagic Field doesn't interfere with concentration.
The spell Antimagic Field doesn't, but if this is some other sort of anti magic zone then it can do whatever it is designed to do. It could break concentration, it could cause magic objects to crumble into dust, it could drain unused spell slots, and it could definitely sever connection to any magic outside the zone. Whatever the zone is, rather than arguing with a player at the table about how it does or doesn't work, I would generally assign a high DC and let them roll an Arcana check to see if they are correct or their character is able to pull off some tricky magic workaround.
So it is as clear as I tried to interpret it :-p Because the cleric loses access to magic, and the intent of the anti magic zone was for no access magic, I am inclined to think he loses his magical connection to his spiritual weapon, as in no ability to control it from within the anti magic zone, at least that is how I interpret it at my table. So that begs the question, would it disappear without its link to the caster or would it float aimlessly, or would it wildly start attacking randomly. If the caster steps back out of the anti magic, would he/she be able to reestablish the connection with the spiritual weapon if it did not disappear? Perhaps another question that is relevant, if a caster goes unconscious, what happens to the spiritual weapon?
The weapon lasts a minute or until dispelled or cast again. It floats around doing nothing if no bonus actions are used to control it. Questions of losing and regaining control within or outside a bespoke anti magic zone are beyond the rules of this game as written - it'd be up to each DM to invent.
