Weird question and I didn't even look into it, but if you have a negative STR modifier lets say -2 and you actually roll above the AC of who you are hitting, it would deal -1 damage. Now, would this heal since it is negative? I'm pretty sure it does not work that way, but hear me out. Your buddy is prone and unconscious, you with the negative modifier punch him for -1 damage (lets say the mod is lower for the sake of overcoming the crit damage of 2-1) thus giving him 1 hp and saving him.
Warlock with negative modifier:"Get up dummy this is no time to nap" *punch*
Rouge:"Omg I thought I was going to die! Who saved me?"
Paladin: Looks away
Cleric: looks away
Barbarian: laughing his butt off "Warlock so weak, he punch you and it actually heals!"
Warlock: bows
Wizard: takes notes

I don’t think negative numbers are possible in D&D. I believe it would do 1 damage.
It would be funny if there was a player who would punch a dying PC and heal them back into combat tho.
Just get the Dual Wielder Feat and hit him with your off hand.
When you take the Attack action and attack with a light melee weapon that you're holding in one hand, you can use a bonus action to attack with a different light melee weapon that you're holding in the other hand. You don't add your ability modifier to the damage of the bonus attack, unless that modifier is negative.
If either weapon has the thrown property, you can throw the weapon, instead of making a melee attack with it.
Also, I just thought of this. If you do negative damage, I guess you do that damage to yourself. Pretty much punching incorrectly damaging your hand.

I’m not sure whether there’s a section in Chapter 9 suggesting an attack does a minimum of one damage, 0 is probably possible.
But damage and healing are not positive and negative values of the same thing. Cure wounds does not do negative 1d8 damage, it does 1d8 healing. An attack doesn’t do negative healing, it does damage.
No way to flip the script RAW, but I agree it’s amusing, great for a cowardly Kobold, groveling to enemies and ineffectively scratching his allies to victory :)

You cannot use the offhand to make an unarmed strike as it is not a weapon, nor does not have the light property.

I thought Dual Wielder would work to over come the light restriction, but alas, a fist is not a weapon. Thank you again IamSposta.

Since you can't do less than 0 damage - it wouldn't heal the target - but the DM could say you hurt yourself for the damage - like maybe you did the punch with your thumb inside your fist.

I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be.

Damage Rolls
Specifically: "With a penalty, it is possible to deal 0 damage, but never negative damage."

Don't let the rules ruin the comic relief of your games. The healing fist should be adopted.
