Amorphous. The shadow is two-dimensional and can move along any surface and through any opening without squeezing. It can change its shape, but not its general size or abilities.
Special Connection. The shadow and its creature naturally understand each other, and can communicate easily through any combination of methods (Including conscious and unconscious telepathy, body language, or even spoken language on the part of the creature).
Into the Dark. The shadow may blend into other shadows while moving about, during which its location can only be known by its creature or by a creature possessing truesight. Note: Strength and Constitution skill checks have disadvantage while hidden in this way.
Help. The shadow can understand requests from its creature and perform simple actions, such as fetching an object, pulling out a chair, or moving in a generally unnatural manner in order to inspire fear in others.
Mischief. The shadow can act of its own volition as well, performing simple actions to help its creature or hinder its enemies. The shadow is unable to directly attack, but can still inconvenience or distract a creature through the manipulation of the physical world (tipping over a glass, moving a brick so that somebody trips on it, tapping someone on the shoulder then moving to the other side, classic shadow pranks).
Display of Emotion. The shadow may react to events and reveal its emotions through body language.
Deliver Spell. If the shadow is its creature's familiar, any spell with a range of touch that the creature casts can be delivered by the shadow using the shadow's reaction. The shadow must be within 100 feet of its creature at the moment, and the spell uses the creature's attack modifier or spell save DC.
Description
This is a sentient shadow. It may have achieved sentience through a spell such as Find Familiar, or because of a magical accident, or perhaps as a random side effect of a particularly lonely magical creature's desire for a companion. Shadows are naturally close with their creatures and make great spooky friends. They can interact with the physical world to the same extent that their creatures can, except that they cannot directly attack any physical creature, or detach themselves from all surfaces at once (such as a creature might while levitating). Shadows tend to enjoy mischief and pranks, and can also be very helpful with intimidation.
