Posted May 7, 2021a character should not really "ride" a large bird in the traditional sense if we are being scientifically accurate as that much weight being on it's back would negatively impact it's ability to use it's wings. it would be far easier for the bird to lift the character up in it's talon's possibly with the use of a special clothing item to protect the characters shoulder's. but yes a giant Owl can be used to transport a character.

Posted May 7, 2021I know that In 3.5e a smaller character/monster always got a bonus to it's stealth (and some other) rolls against a larger creature because of it's size which was factored in later since it was dependent on the size of the other creature. IE a halfling a small creature got a +1 to stealth against medium creatures and a +2 to stealth against large creature. I do not know if this is an official rule in 5e, but it could be used as a varient rule.

Posted Aug 20, 2021The real real question is... if you had telepathy, could you telepathically talk back and forth with an owl via common, elvish, or sylvan?

Posted May 24, 2022Indeed, you only get an hour at a time, but they fly quite swiftly, and they're strong enough to hold on to most party members.
However, it does get a bit more complicated when you have members of your party that weigh more than 300 lbs.
Also, your party will make quite an impression on people if you land in front of town being carried by giant owls. My party is called the Owl Riders for this very reason.
