Multiattack. The harpy makes two attacks: one with its claws and one with its club.
Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (2d4 + 1) slashing damage.
Club. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 3 (1d4 + 1) bludgeoning damage.
Luring Song. The harpy sings a magical melody. Every humanoid and giant within 300 feet of the harpy that can hear the song must succeed on a DC 11 Wisdom saving throw or be charmed until the song ends. The harpy must take a bonus action on its subsequent turns to continue singing. It can stop singing at any time. The song ends if the harpy is incapacitated.
While charmed by the harpy, a target is incapacitated and ignores the songs of other harpies. If the charmed target is more than 5 feet away from the harpy, the target must move on its turn toward the harpy by the most direct route, trying to get within 5 feet. It doesn't avoid opportunity attacks, but before moving into damaging terrain, such as lava or a pit, and whenever it takes damage from a source other than the harpy, the target can repeat the saving throw. A charmed target can also repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns. If the saving throw is successful, the effect ends on it.
A target that successfully saves is immune to this harpy's song for the next 24 hours.
Description
A harpy combines the body, legs, and wings of a vulture with the torso, arms, and head of a human female. Its sweet song has lured countless adventurers to their deaths.

Posted Jul 4, 2021I guess the designers just wanted to increase their DPR by a little bit, as well as add some flavor since according to the Monster Manual the club is made out of bone. You can always remove the club (although that would probably reduce their offensive CR) or flavor it as something else, such as a beak/bite attack.

Posted Oct 11, 2021Why would a harpy choose to attack with the club instead of attacking with her claws a second time for more damage? Is this just a way to reduce their threat level a bit?

Posted Mar 8, 2022The 5E Harpy is a an example of taking an iconic monster from prior editions, stripping off interesting feats/abilities (Flyby Attack), slamming the CR down to 1 (was CR 3 in 3.5), and calling it a day. This seems like a lazy port to 5E to me, we can do better. I don't want to spend my DM prep time on making custom versions of iconic monsters in 5E just to make them not boring or to bring the CR back to prior editions (usually both).

Posted Apr 3, 2022This might seem like an interesting playable race. So many DMs hate flight, but I think it's somewhat overrated. Sure, flight is strong at lower levels, but it's so easy to circumvent. Whenever I play a flying race (because my DM actually allows it), I don't abuse my flight. Like I avoid using flight as much as a can out of combat.

Posted Apr 25, 2022No.. But i'd alow it as DM. That it would need a while to learn it. But not just instant. Otherwise all Kenku could learn al vocal spells. And the charming song is still a magic one

Posted Jan 22, 2023I had a character of that college who was a Warforged but flavored to look like the wooden carving of a woman with a harp like that at the front of a ship, and she got her powers from listening to the harpies that caused her ship to crash and kill her passengers.

Posted Feb 12, 2023Consider using them a different way. Don’t forget Harpies hang out where adventurers are endangered, so cliffs and pits, and other such things that do the dirty work for the Harpy..

Posted Sep 12, 2023So if a changeling once saw this Fenmarel Mestarine and imitated his appearance in front of some harpies, or if a spellcaster imitated his appearance with Alter Self, what would happen?
