Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6 + 3) slashing damage.
Tail Spike. Ranged Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, range 100/200 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) piercing damage.
Description
A manticore has a vaguely humanoid head, the body of a lion, and the wings of a dragon. Its long tail ends in a cluster of deadly spikes that can impale prey at impressive range.
My character has the ability to possess any dead creatures with blood via his magic sword, so we killed the manticore and now I'm playing it. Can't wait for the next battle.
Everyone but our DM was really surprised because they had no idea I could do that and I haven't explained it yet :)
befriending this guy lmao
Any1 had encounters with a manticore? What were they about. I’m playing a single player campaign and I had an npc wizard come along with me and while we were on our way to a isolated village a manticore came from the trees, and tried to attack us. Since the campaign was new and I was level 3 I knew I couldn’t kill the manticore so I had my horse leap over it at full gallop, but then the manticore shot spikes and so that we could still get away I took the hit and even though I took the hit so we could continue riding the manticore flew over and landed infront and I decided that no way we can save the horse and I already took shots for it so I pushed the hostess right into the manticore and me and the npc wizard ran while the manticore ate my horse.
Maybe but remember the manticore can fly so it could do that when u try to plunge through
That’s kinda what I did, back when doing a quest where I had to kill three ghouls as level one I stabbed my dagger through my shield so every time I block they take damage
managed to befriend a manticore in a campaign a long time ago - still one of my favorite interactions. My frail moon elf bard and a giant manticore, they were quite the team
Can I eat one?
Gonna sick this loser on my two first level characters. I hope they'll be okay idk how to balance lmao.
You could use the DnDBeyond Encounter Builder, and that would tell you your players are already dead. Combat difficulty is determined by looking at the total xp gain of the combat and by the number of creatures compared to the number of players and their levels
Another easy way to tell this is a bad idea is this things CR is 3. That means a basic party of four level 3's should be able to deal with it. Two level 1's, though? depending on their classes, they could easily be killed from range with the tail spikes on a single attack if the dice demands it
Ok - I am currently running Wild Beyond the Witchlight and I foresee me making a homebrew - FEY Maniticore... The wings will obviously switch from dragon wings to either feather wings or giant butterfly wings. Overall it would be less spikey and more fluffy of feathery. For the tail - it could still toss spikes, but instead of piercing damage I'm thinking some type of spell effect: What should it be?
A poison effect might make sense.
What's up with it's teeth?
Hot face, mr. Manticore
Who would win, a chimera or manticore?
How do I make a manticore slightly more difficult? I’m putting this against 4 level 3 characters and I wanted it to be a hard encounter, but it is currently an easy one. Any suggestions?
.
Make a grapple check
I am making a campaign fro my low level party and I think this will be a good challenge ( for starters )
Does the Manticore make 3 attacks in 1 round or does it choose 1 of its 3 attack options and only makes 1 attack per round?
Sounds like you had a grand time! CHEERS!
