Shapechanger. The mimic can use its action to polymorph into an object or back into its true, amorphous form. Its statistics are the same in each form. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying isn't transformed. It reverts to its true form if it dies.
Adhesive (Object Form Only). The mimic adheres to anything that touches it. A Huge or smaller creature adhered to the mimic is also grappled by it (escape DC 13). Ability checks made to escape this grapple have disadvantage.
False Appearance (Object Form Only). While the mimic remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from an ordinary object.
Grappler. The mimic has advantage on attack rolls against any creature grappled by it.
Pseudopod. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) bludgeoning damage. If the mimic is in object form, the target is subjected to its Adhesive trait.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) piercing damage plus 4 (1d8) acid damage.

Posted Jul 19, 2021So, I just checked, and 206 mimics is considered deadly for anything less than twenty-two level twenty players. For comparison, two Tarrasques is a deadly encounter for twenty-four or less level twenty players.

Posted Aug 20, 2021I came here to read this after my dad told me that his group uses mimics like what Dark Souls uses.
All I can say is that I'm thankful mimics in Dark Souls are just chests and that they can't take the form of a door.

Posted Oct 4, 2021I tamed one as a druid and it was so cool because the possibility of having living objects is endless. example a self driving carriage. a sword with tentacles to pull in your enemy's. mimic arrow to wrap you enemy on hit. mimic cape to rip of doctor strange and many more awesome things. if your a dm give a player one of these and make the combat a bit harder until the players hit lv 5.

Posted Nov 2, 2021this, this is amazing. your enginuity is brilliant and i have a similar idea.
"your in the treasure room, sand falling from the hole in the rock ceiling down to the floor. a treasure chest lays infront of you."
in the event players think the chest's the mimic
"suddenly from the sand, a mimic rises!"
if your players are annoying, use a sand mimic

Posted Dec 3, 2021LOL, the first DND game I played with was with a group inexperienced players and an experienced DM and he had us running through the Underdark. Being the smart people we were, we split up to search 4 empty rooms. I was tasked to search a room with a fountain. As I searched the room, I decided to search the fountain. In the bottom of the fountain was the wonderful glowing sword and I just reached out and grabbed it and was instantly grappled by the Mimic. Needless to say, being low level and by myself I didn't survive the encounter. I learned to valuable lessons that day:
1. Don't split the party. By the time they anyone got to into the room with me, I was nearly dead and it still took them another turn just to get to me.
2. Be careful what you grab for.
lol
I don't blame the DM, he was just teaching us a lesson and helping us understand the game better. He had other traps for the other players, I was just the lucky one to find mine first. This wasn't the first time we split the party and randomly started grabbing things.
