Poor Depth Perception. The cyclops has disadvantage on any attack roll against a target more than 30 feet away.
Actions
Multiattack. The cyclops makes two greatclub attacks.
Greatclub. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 19 (3d8 + 6) bludgeoning damage.
Rock. Ranged Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, range 30/120 ft., one target. Hit: 28 (4d10 + 6) bludgeoning damage.
Description
Cyclopes are one-eyed giants that eke out a meager existence in wild lands. They are a terrifying threat in combat due to their size and strength, but they can often be tricked by clever foes.
If your name is Noman, use a fake name. He has had a bad experience with a Noman so he might just attack you.
That's a good one, nice reference
I thought it was Nobody... But Noman works as well I guess.
It is Nobody (Nobdy) i just read the odyssey today.
Depends on the translation, it was written in Greek remember
no its nobody not noman
The most literal translation of the greek is nobody
Really? I was under the impression that the way Classical Greek is structured, both translations are equally valid.
(You learn something new every day.)
It took me a second, I would've gotten it faster if you said nobody
Wait... I heard Nobody can trick a cyclops, why is its Wisdom just a 6?
Did they even think before they wrote that?
The only Ranged attack the Cyclops has, Rock, has a Range of 30/120. They already have disadvantage on ranges greater than 30ft. Their Poor Depth Perception does nothing.
Hey, I was just about to say the same thing. But on top of that, you made your comment on my birthday. Anyway, it's like someone was imagining a cyclops using a bow, but that feels a little bit weird, especially since apparently they'd be bad at it. A true giant maybe, but not a cyclops. More sensibly, they should have disadvantage on sight perception beyond 30 ft.
I would imagine someone tossed it in since they figured someone would complain if they didn't. Also every other giant has double the range on their rock attack, so I imagine this one being less must've been intentional.
Oh no! He's going for his evil instruments of torture!
In one of my campaigns there is a character that has collected, and don't ask, 7 Staffs of the Python. They obliterated this thing with a little help from an archer.
"one-eyed giants that eke out a meager existence in wild lands," poor things: eke out means to "scrape by," so these things have deep trouble simply surviving the elements.
I came here specifically to see if anyone else had already noticed this.
That's the only ranged attack on the stat block, nothing's stopping it from using another ranged weapon it finds. For example, a ballista has a regular range of 120 feet, but if a Cyclops were to use it, that regular range is reduced to 30
The typical range listing for the Rock throw attack for a giant is 60/240.
It's not a situation where they made the Poor Depth Perception as a redundant ability for the Rock throw. It's that the Rock throw ability's range is already accounting for the Poor Depth Perception handicap.
I am making a Homebrew campaign for some friends. Is this an ok monster for some level one characters as a boss?
