Discern Lie. Zabella discerns when a creature in earshot speaks a lie in a languageshe knows.
Fey Ancestry. Zabella has advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put her to sleep.
Eyes of Light and Dark. Magical darkness doesn't impede Zabella's darkvision, and she does not have the sunlight sensitivity trait.
Unarmored Defense. While Zabella is wearing no armor and wielding no shield, her AC includes her Wisdom modifier.
Evasion. If Zabella is subjected to an effect that allows her to make a Dexterity saving throw to take half damage, she instead takes no damage on a success, and half damage on a failure.
Special Equipment. Zabella wears bracers of defense, a ring of mind shielding (which is invisible) and wields an eldritch staff. She also carries one [Tooltip Not Found] (which she is capable of casting without an ability check)
Multiattack. Zabella makes two attacks with her eldritch staff and two Unarmed Strikes, or three Spectral Dagger attacks.
Eldritch Staff. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (1d10 + 7) bludgeoning damage. Zabella can expend 1 of the staff’s charges to deal an extra 4 (1d8) lightning damage on a hit.
Unarmed Strike. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (1d10 + 6) bludgeoning damage.
Spectral Dagger. Ranged Spell Attack: +10 to hit, one target. Hit: 9 (1d8 + 5) force damage.
Cloak of Shadows. While in dim light or darkness, Zabella turns invisible until the start of her next turn, or until she attacks, casts a spell, or is in an area of bright light.
Spellcasting. Zabella casts one of the following spells, requiring no material components and using Charisma as the spellcasting ability (spell save DC 18):
At will: dancing lights, detect magic, message, thaumaturgy, darkness, minor illusion
1/day each: clairvoyance, detect thoughts, dispel magic, faerie fire, levitate (self only), pass without trace, silence, suggestion, true seeing
Shadow Step. While in dim light or darkness, Zabella teleports, along with any equipment she is wearing or carrying, up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space she can see that is also in dim light or darkness. She then has advantage on the first melee attack she makes before the end of the turn.
Deflect Missile. In response to being hit by a ranged weapon attack, Zabella deflects the missile. The damage it takes from the attack is reduced by 1d10 + 6. If the damage is reduced to 0, Zabella catches the missile if it’s small enough to hold in one hand and Zabella has a hand free.
Eldritch Escape. If Zabella is wielding her eldritch staff, she can use her reaction, upon taking damage, to expend 3 of the staff's charges, turning invisible and teleporting up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space she can see. She remains invisible until the start of her next turn or until she attacks, cast a spell, or deals damage.
Description
Zabella Kaern'Orzza was, for many years, an inquisitor and arbiter of the Spider Queen's will. While effective and dedicated, she lacked the more sadistic and murderous traits of her peers; and soon grew disillusioned with the constant political intrigues, backstabbing and senseless death of her subterranean Drow society.
She left the underdark, questioned by none as befit her station, and renounced the Spider Queen for a new life on the surface, seeking out high ranking individuals who might have use for her skills and keen insights.
As a drow possessed of powerful abilities, she was distrusted and shunned by manyl and by her nature and training she is distrustful herself, yet refused to lower herself beneath the station that her power and highborn bearing commanded.
As such, she fell in with less legitimate and less savoury entities, seeking to carve out a new legacy for herself in a position of power in the moral grey areas of the world, serving as an advisor to mercenary leaders, pirate lords and organised crime bosses, whilst subtly manipulating them for her own ends using the many tools at her disposal: her powerful abilities, her vast network of contacts, her cunning intellect, keen insight and forethought, and her stunning beauty (that she is very much aware of).
Whilst Zabella does not relish in violence, she has no qualms about it, seeing its necessity and merits, and is effective and decisive at administering it personally.
Zabella's personality is somewhat reserved, preferring to size up any potential friends or foes before engaging them, either in conversation or battle. She chooses her words very carefully, and never gives away more than she needs to. To her allies, she always keeps her word (whilst wanting to get the better of any bargain) and to her enemies, she is merciless, and never picks a fair fight, seeing "honourable combat" as childish, naive and unpragmatic.
She is also highly ambitious, this hubris being one of her few potential weaknesses, along with being prideful to a fault and a compulsive seductress, acutely aware as she is that her own mysterious allure and physical beauty mean she can have almost any man or woman she pleases.
Zabella Daen'Orzza can be a powerful ally, a formidable adversary, or lucrative quest-giver to any ambitious adventuring party, and can fit well into most campaign settings.
