Legendary Resistance (4/Day). If Ytontyss fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.

Undead Reawakening (Recharges after a Short or Long Rest)   If Ytontyss would be reduced to 0 hit points, its current hit point total instead resets to 450 hit points, it recharges its Breath Weapon, and it regains any expended uses of Legendary Resistance. Additionally, Ytontyss can now use the options in the “Mythic Actions” section for 1 hour. Award a party an additional 120,000 XP (240,000 XP total) for defeating the greatwyrm after its Metallic Awakening activates.

Magic Resistance Ytontyss has advantage on Saving Throws against spells and other Magical Effects.

Actions

Multiattack. The dragon can use its Frightful Presence. It then makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +18 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 21 (2d10 + 10) piercing damage.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +18 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (2d8 + 10) slashing damage. If the target is a Huge or smaller creature, it is grappled (escape DC 20) and is restrained until this grapple ends. Ytontyss can only have one creature grappled in this way at a time.

Tail. Melee Weapon Attack: +18 to hit, reach 20 ft., one target. Hit: 21 (2d10 + 10) bludgeoning damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 26 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

Frightful Presence. Each creature of the dragon's choice that is within 120 feet of the dragon and aware of it must succeed on a DC 25 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature's saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the dragon's Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours.

Breath Weapons (Recharge 5–6). Ytontyss uses one of the following breath weapons.

Lifeless Conflagration. Ytontyss exhales undead flame in a 300-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 25 Dexterity saving throw, taking 84 (13d12) fire and necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Weight of Ages. Ytontyss exhales gas in a 300-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 26 Strength saving throw. On a failed save, the creature falls unconscious for 1 minute. On a successful save the creature has disadvantage on Strength-based attack rolls, Strength checks, and Strength saving throws for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Change Shape. Ytontyss magically transforms into any creature that is Medium or Small, while retaining its game statistics (other than its size). This transformation ends if the dragon is reduced to 0 hit points or uses its action to end it.

Legendary Actions

Ytontyss can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. Ytontyss regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Detect. Ytontyss makes a Wisdom (Perception) check.

Attack. Ytontyss makes one Claw or Tail attack.

Wing Attack (Costs 2 Actions). Ytontyss beats its tattered wings. Each creature within 15 feet of the dragon must succeed on a DC 26 Dexterity saving throw or take 17 (2d6 + 10) bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone. Ytontyss can then fly up to half its flying speed.

Mythic Actions

If Ytontyss' Undead Reawakening trait has been activated in the last hour, it can use the options below as legendary actions.

Bite. Ytontyss makes one Bite Attack.

Wail of the Damned (Costs 2 Actions). Ytontyss wails with the agonies of the undead. Each creature within a 120-foot-radius sphere centered on Ytontyss must succeed on a DC 26 Constitution saving throw or take 19 (3d12) necrotic damage and be incapacitated until the end of its next turn.

Description

Ytontyss, The Tyrant. An evil ancient gold dragon of immense wealth, something in his hoard or someone he let too close corrupted him as he aged. Planting a seed of greed in his mind that grew into a mighty tree of avarice. He became obsessed with having everything he could get his claws on, everything he could reach, everything out of reach. Like many dracoliches he found himself worried that death would strip his wealth from him. He underwent this ritual and remained in a deep slumber beneath the Sunrise Mountains in Thay, whose dark magics grew him into the form seen today.

(A mix of dracolich and Ancient Greatwyrm)

Lair and Lair Actions

A Gold Dragon’s Lair

Gold dragons make their homes in out-of-the-way places, where they can do as they please without arousing suspicion or fear. Most dwell near idyllic lakes and rivers, mist-shrouded islands, cave complexes hidden behind sparkling waterfalls, or ancient ruins.

Lair Actions

On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the dragon takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; the dragon can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:

  • The dragon glimpses the future, so it has advantage on attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws until initiative count 20 on the next round.
  • One creature the dragon can see within 120 feet of it must succeed on a DC 15 Charisma saving throw or be banished to a dream plane, a different plane of existence the dragon has imagined into being. To escape, the creature must use its action to make a Charisma check contested by the dragon’s. If the creature wins, it escapes the dream plane. Otherwise, the effect ends on initiative count 20 on the next round. When the effect ends, the creature reappears in the space it left or in the nearest unoccupied space if that one is occupied.
  • Ytontyss targets any number of creatures it can see within 30 feet of it. No target can regain Hit Points until initiative count 20 on the next round.
  • Ytontyss' tomb trembles violently for a moment. Each creature on the floor of the tomb must succeed on a DC 20 Dexterity saving throw or be knocked [condition]prone[/conditon]
  • Ytontyss targets one creature it can see within 60 feet of it. An antimagic field fills the space of the target, moving with it until initiative count 20 on the next round.

Regional Effects

The region containing a legendary gold dragon’s lair is warped by the dragon’s magic, which creates one or more of the following effects:

  • Whenever a creature that can understand a language sleeps or enters a state of trance or reverie within 6 miles of the dragon’s lair, the dragon casts dream ignoring requirements of immunity to charm
  • Banks of putrescent, stinging mist manifest within 6 miles of Ytontyss' lair. The mist doesn’t obscure anything. It forms shapes and voices, living and dead figures from the memories of the creatures that aren't welcome.
  • Gems and pearls within 1 mile of the dragon’s lair dim and cloud.
  • The first time a non-evil creature enters the tomb’s area, the creature takes 16 (3d10) necrotic damage.
  • Monsters in the tomb have advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened, and against features that turn undead.
  • The tomb is warded against the magical travel of creatures Ytontyss hasn’t authorized. Such creatures can’t teleport into or out of the tomb’s area or use planar travel to enter or leave it. Effects that allow teleportation or planar travel work within the tomb as long as they aren’t used to leave or enter the tomb’s area.

If Ytontyss is destroyed, these effects fade over the course of 10 years.
