Posted May 1, 2025Why? Why two rends instead of beak and claws? DM will not be able to process that?

Posted May 12, 2025Harry Potter anyone?
Gained one hit die, increasing health from 19 to 26.
Lost Keen Sight, as did everything else, but didn't gain expertise in Perception like some did. Gained the Flyby trait, which is always irritating to fight against, and fun to run.
Damage was actually decreased from an average of 8 piercing and 10 slashing to 14 slashing.
I'm not exactly sure how I feel about these changes. On one hand, it can take a few more hits and you don't provoke opportunity attacks while flying. On the other hand, it lost combat prowess. I think I'll use fusion.
Fusion time! Swap out for the attacks of the old one. for higher DPS, but that is it.

Posted Oct 9, 2025I see your comment quite often Arsen, and i have to ask you, why? Why it seems for you the deadlier the creature is, the better? Its a solid cr 1 as it is if well used, if you want so much everything to be so buffed, just double the hp and damage of everything and let your players suffer. If i had to make a change, it would be to just use 2014 cause 2014 statblocks feel more like a griffon.

Posted Nov 7, 2025I think one of the reasons they changed to a generic Rend attack was probably so that if the DM wants their hippogriff to use two claw attacks or two beak attacks in a turn they can do that without changing the damage output, although ease of use was probably a part of it too. I personally like the Rend attack, because it means you can describe your hippogriff's attacks as something other than exactly one beak attack and one claw attack every round, which isn't normally how animals fight.
