Description

Although known by many names throughout the land, the Žábamoc is a kind of frog bred by heavy concentrations of magic and influences in the environment.

The first Žábamocs were believed to have been bred on accident when an absentminded wizard poured tadpoles into a fire potion. Since this discovery, many other variants of the Žábamoc have come to be. They come in various colors, with each color holding a unique ability.

The elemental power of Žábamocs can be influenced by someone proficient in Animal Handling while in the tadpole stage.

Mannerisms. Having direct ancestry to basic frogs, many Žábamocs share characteristics of size, strength, and dexterity.

Tame.  Domesticated Žábamocs are generally friendly to everyone they meet. They love their handlers and will aide them in whatever they do. It is rare for a Žábamoc to be hostile, unless when trained by someone whose alignment leans towards evil intentions. Often serving as pets when domesticated, they can bring companionship to whoever owns them. Some travelers use these creatures to save on much-needed tinderboxes and candles when coming from afar.

Feral. The feral Žábamoc is generally not to be feared on its own. Some variants swarm together and can be dangerous when provoked.

Mating. The glow of the Žábamoc has also been known to be used in their natural habitat as part of the mating ritual. The male will puff out and glow to attract a femme. The larger and brighter he is, the more successful.

Breeding. The breeding of the Žábamoc can be tricky. When mating with like-kind, the offspring will take after the parents. However, crossbreeding elements (ie. fire and water) can bring mixed results.

Size. The size of the Žábamoc can increase if allowed to remain in the environment of their given element. (ie. lava, earth, and water) However, those domesticated from early tadpole stages will not commonly reach beyond normal frog size.

Class, Type, and Coloration. All Žábamocs have a base color with extra markings on their limbs, belly, or back. When they emit their glow, the light shines brighter through their markings.

Lair and Lair Actions

Žábamoc lairs are only common amongst swarms and hordes. They are found deeply submerged in the element that corresponds to their elemental core. In these cases, the strongest and largest will become the leader by brute force.

"It appeared to be thirtyfold the size of a mere frog. This creature born of magic and nature before me sat, undaunted by my presence. Perhaps it was because I was smaller than it, that I was no threat to it. It glanced at me and croaked deeply and gently in an almost welcoming tone. Perhaps instead, it did not harm me for within that creature was too, a highly developed sense of reasoning that has yet to be discovered.

~ Omric Valjra, High Sage of the Gliedalean Order on the Discovery of the Magma Horde in the Volcanic Isles of Simolec
