Posted Dec 9, 2018The main difference is Tritons have legs and green hair, but they are both relatively similar.

Posted Jan 18, 2020It’s a popular race to home brew, great for an undersea camp.
But, the problem is that they are barely functional in the terrestrial environment all the standard races are meat for. Triton is a more practical option.

Posted Feb 7, 2020Merfolk live as primary denasins of the ocean, while tritons are like defenders. Merfolk are to humans like how tritons are to elves.

Posted Jun 29, 2020Physically: Merfolk have tails and a crest, tritons have legs and hair.
Culturally: Merfolk are a tribal people, Tritons are a militaristic people that fight the Horrors of the Sea.

Posted Jun 13, 2022If they were a playable race, I'd make it so that they could have the power or magic to transform their tails into legs, although I'm unsure as to whether or not that'd be too OP. Maybe make the transformation temporary but then that'd be a hassle of a character to run.

Posted Nov 17, 2022Merfolk tend to be more self-centered why tritons are altruistic (N vs LG). If a demonic seahorse is trying to inject eggs into a pc the merman will just leave or attack the monster to save itself later while the triton will hum a superhero jingle and help for its own sake.
