quite true. but rarely are those valid for the games I've gotten to play (not that many admitidly)
that said Boros' is basically pretty fancy for Alchemists. Gives some element compatible with their class feature spells. and some interesting buffs in heroism and becon of hope.
And people wonder why I treat the Ravnica book like a toxic waste disaster...
I agree. It was a cash grab, and shouldn't be a book. I do like that we got rules for Minotaurs, Centaurs, and Simic Hybrids as they can be easily used in other settings, but that's some of the only useful info in the book. Ravnica isn't meant to be a D&D setting.

No, it was meant to be an M:tG expansion and it got shoehorned into D&D as cross promotion.

Yes, with the Ravnica Allegiance block, but they decided to make it a D&D setting as well. The first official 5e setting book. I mean, I like M:tG, and Ravnica is cool, but it isn't designed to be a D&D setting. I really hope Theros is better.
(I wonder if Theros will have options like this that add to spell lists? It could lead to more exploits like this.)

I do think it would be neat in general for a method to switch out spells in some way. Varient rule. I'd love to get Produce Flame instead of Firestrike and such.
though plenty of "ask a GM" situation, but would be neat for some guidelines. No clue if 5E has spell research. Most spell lists I feel like are fine though, its mostly just one or two that feel disjointed for me personally. Though thats neither here nor there for this topic I suppose.
Why is the Flaming Sphere a with the SSI a concern? How are we getting 10 of them on the field at once? Why are subclass spells not suitable?
The spell is concentration which means only one of them at a time. Giving this the most you can have is two of anyone spell (you cast it and the SSI holder (not you) cast it
There can only be one SSI at a time per Artificer "Whenever you finish a long rest, you can touch one simple or martial weapon or one item .... and you store a spell in it... stays in the object until it’s been used a number of times ...or until you use this feature again to store a spell in an object."
Also subclass spells "these spells count as artificer spells for you" where other means of getting spells, Marks Feats, etc are just "is added to the spell list of your spellcasting class." but are does not count as class spells. SSI can hold "artificer spell[s]". It's like a mechanic reading a book on computer repair. Sure he can understand some of it and maybe make it work but not the best. However, if it was Automobile Onboard Computers (you know what I mean...) then he would be more proficient at It.
Yeah, sorry, but you were right and wrong with a lot of that.
Yes, you can only concentrate on one flaming sphere at a time. But, you can pass it around to different creatures. You can cast Animate Objects, or have someone else cast it, and create 10 animated tiny or small creatures that can pick up the SSI with flaming sphere in it, and now you can have 10 flaming spheres effectively controlled by you or another party member that can do a lot of damage in a big range.
Also, you are correct that you only get 1 SSI at a time, but it can be used multiple times, which is what we're doing here.
Additionally, it doesn't matter if the subclass spells say that they count as Artificer spells for you, because they aren't added to your spell list in wording, which is what SSI's restrictions require.
The fact that Marks and Background spells are added to your spell list guarantees that RAW, they can be used with SSI.

I really like those backgrounds though,
Yes, normally not valid.
Boros is good for a lot of classes and subclasses. Be a Boros background Bladesinger, and now you can use smite spells!

Ah... Thank your answering question. I missed the part where you would pass the SSI around the party to cast the spell over again.
Still not convinced on the spell list but if the are RAW and gives more option for a character, it doesn't really matter. 😁
The subclass spells are subclass spells. They aren't on the class' spell list. The warlock is an exception. It specifically states that the subclass spells are added to the warlock spell list.
