So im working on building a rage magic sorcerer, one of the prime mechanics being that when hit basically they just get stronger in a way (sorta like yang xiuo long in rwby if anybody has seen it). how i want to word it is when they get hit the store the kinetic energy and on an attack they can release it as some form of "arcane" bonus damage (im thinking force because it sorta sounds right) but im having just a few problems with my rambling thoughts at times on how exactly it would do this. anybody have any ideas or thoughts on how i can do this in some way? anything at all is fine.
I don't believe anything like this exists within the game currently. If you wanted to homebrew something you can do literally anything that you wanted.
There are several things in the game that have an effect more like "I take damage, you take damage because you hurt me." But that doesn't have a build up like what you were asking about.
To homebrew it try using the War Wizard form Xanathars Guide and splicing it with the Sorcerer. So you'd gain Arcane Deflection and Tactical Wit at level 1 (might need to see if your DM would allow Tactical Wit to be based off of your Charisma instead of Intelliegence), you'd gain Power Surge at level 6 (Switch out recharging them with Couunterspell or Dispel Magic for taking 'x' amount of damage), Durable Magic at level 14 and Deflecting Shroud at level 18.
@Alizethegnoll, If you read the description of the spell Absorb Elements, you'll definitely find a similar mechanism that involves being attacked, storing energy then using the energy against the opponent. The spell doesn't let the players store/absorb effect of 'force' damage, but it offers several options like absorption of 'lightning' and 'thunder' energy.
Kinda sounds like absorb elements but for physical damage. Maybe start with the Absorb element spell as a reference?
here is a first stab: at 1st level you gain the ability to absorb kinetic energy and use to fuel your spells. When Hit by a melee piercing/Bludgeoning/slashing damage, you can absorb the kinetic energy upto a number of your hit dice. gaining resistance to the triggering type of damageuntil using the stored energy. Using the stored energy you add 1d6/hit die expended force damage to any attack spell. You may do a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per day.
hmmm its tru i was thinking of the i take damage you do to effects but im going to have to work it into a build up maybe or something idk but thanks for your help!!
an interesting idea and around what i was thinking about tbh but i like the idea of using your hit dice like that thanks for the help!
sorta what im aiming for is like when you take a forceful bout of damage you can take that nasty shit and put it behind a weapon ur holding or a spell you cast so adsorb elements is identical in a few ways ye
Given the thematic nature of building up power and releasing it or taking damage and converting it into some effect, there are couple of other things that have just sprung to mind. The Telekinetic feat allows a bonus action shove style attack so you could work something like that into what you want, also you could always ask your DM for the Hellish Rebuke spell to be added to your spell list.
Edit....also Armour of Agathys could work if your DM would switch it over to a sorcerer spell, you could also look at the the following UA for a sorcerer origin based on giants, the Frost Giant version has Armour of Agathys as a bonus spell and your DM might be able to tweak it to help get what you want form a class side of things.

I don't know if there's any kind of weapon that will absorb incoming energy, but Rod of Absorption has similar effect.
