A recent question about Content Sharing got me thinking: It is my understanding that the current pandemic-related expanded limit of 5 campaigns for content sharing reverts to 3 come January 1. If this is correct, i think it would be a good idea for this to be clearly announced and the plans for those of us with 5 campaigns currently going forward. Based on what I’ve heard Adam say, and how some other things are being handled, my guess is it will be something like this:
-Those of us who currently have 5 campaigns with content sharing will be able to continue sharing with those 5 campaigns
-If we turn off sharing with one of those campaigns after the limit reverts to 3, we won’t be able to share with additional campaigns unless and until the number of campaigns we are sharing with drops below 3. [NOTE: this has implications for the often recommended fix to sharing issues of turning off sharing and turning it back on]
Don’t get me wrong, I really appreciate the upgrade to 5 during the pandemic, and I understand the need to return to 3 at some point. I just think some clarity on this issue before the change happens would be really helpful, and will help to stem the tide of surprised and unhappy customers complaining after the fact because they forgot/didn’t pay attention/didn’t know things were changing. (I’m not naive enough to believe it will eliminate those all together, but I do think it would help, and those of us who did know could at least point to “here’s where they explained what was happening”)
As the world continues to deal with the ongoing pandemic, we are not reducing the number of campaigns for which you can enable content sharing from 5 back down to 3 at the end of the year as originally planned.
When we do need to revert back, we will notify the community a few months in advance and share any details about how it all will work.
I mean...ya could just leave it at 5 permanently. it's not like you'd be losing any money.
But they would..... it would mean that less people would have to purchase a subscription
sorry but companies still have to pay server bills for all those extra characters
That might actually be a very good way to insert a subscription tier between Hero and Master. Leave Master at 5 campaigns, but offer a “Hero+ Tier” that only offers sharing with 2 campaigns, but only costs $45.99 annually and $4.99 monthly. People who want to share a little, but don’t need that many, or who might be balking at the Master Tier price would eat it up all day long. Plus, they would also probably sell more Master Tier subscriptions that way too.
Do you know why movie theaters, etc. actually offer “medium*” sizes for drinks and other up-sell items? At the movie theaters, the smallest sized drinks are currently around 16oz and cost around $5 (31¢/oz), the medium size are around 21oz and $5.50 (26¢/oz), and the largest is around 30oz and $6 (20¢/oz). Anyone looking at the math can see that “upgrading” from a small to a medium costs $0.50, and adds only 5oz, for a value of 10¢/oz but upgrading from a small to a large only costs $1, but instead adds 14oz of product for a value of 7¢/oz.
So, if the customer just wants the lowest cost to purchase, clearly the smallest size has the most value. If the customer really wants to drink a bathtub full of refined sugar water and artificial coloring, and they want the most soda they can get for their expense, then the largest size is clearly the most product for the cost, and therefore is perceived as the greatest value. Under no circumstances is the medium size ever a comparable value to the other two. So why does it exist? To make the largest size seem like a better value by comparison.** They sell far more large sodas simply because the medium exists as an option than they ever would if they only offered small and large beverages.
Not really, it's just a shuffle to keep up sharing to several campaigns. All keeping it at 5 would do is make it easier on us master tier subscribers who have also purchased all the content to not have to shuffle as much.
I noticed the subscription page lists 5 as if its a normal feature, found this thread looking to see if that was announced permanent.
I do think there's potentially space for Hero+ Tier with 1 campaign, as someone else mentioned but I think a single campaign for that is the most reasonable.
I imagine there's space for a supersized Master tier, where there's an increased price for more campaigns or an account limit. Hopefully the pandemic will bare out there's a reasonable market for people who play in many games.
Obviously there's a rights negotiation that has to happen with WotC for this kind of stuff and certainly there's gotta be a reasonable limit or one guy on reddit will share with 10k people.
Glad to see that it's staying 5 for now, but even now, it's not always enough for the campaigns I'm running, especially since people also want to make spares in some cases. I'd much rather see it go up even more.

If your friends also have master tier subs, they can enable content sharing for some of the campaigns and as long as you are either the DM or a player in those campaigns, then your stuff will still get shared. If you want more content sharing, and to support DDB, encouraging your friends to get master tier subscriptions too.

I upvoted this post, but wanted to double-down and make a post saying this is a fantastic idea! I have several friends who are just getting into DnD as DMs, or are playing in just one campaign and want to enable content sharing but don't want to pay all that money for a whole bunch of other campaigns they're not going to use.

This page actually says 5, instead of 3 (+2 temporarily). Or something to that effect.

I will understand if it goes back to 3, but a bunch of people who signed up on 5, without knowing the history, might not be so understanding.

I would happily pay a premium to expand my sharable number permanently, as I am running and playing in way more than 5 as it is..
