Fighting Style - Superior Technique. Not functional. We don't currently have a sensible way of implementing the selection of maneuvers that wouldn't cause characters to become broken in the future. We're working on a solution for this known issue.
There is a workaround to this. You can ask your DM to create a Feat or create it yourself.
They (or you) choose "Martial Adept" as the template. Edit the name to Superior Technique, then change the language in the feat to say "one maneuver" instead of "two maneuvers". Finally, change the "TOTAL NUMBER OF FEAT OPTIONS USER CAN SELECT" to 1, then save.
From there, you can go to the Features & Traits tab on your character sheet, scroll all the way down until you see "Manage Feats", then add Superior Technique from there. It will allow you to pick your maneuver and you will also get a check box for the superiority dice that the fighting style gives you.

How do you give an extra feat to a character though? Aren't the slots limited?
You can just add a feat in the character sheet: on the Features & Traits tab, select Feats, click Manage Feats, and then you can add feats outside of the ASI progression.

How do I pick the maneuver? Tried a homebrew feat and also the official Martial Adept feat, both just say "No Choice Made" and I can't find any way to select one. I think it would normally be done in the Class features page, but because these are feats added outside of normal class progression, they're not in that list...
[EDIT] Found it - it asks for your selection in the Add Feat list, I must have skipped right past it. Went back and it had a blue pip against it!
Awesome awesome awesome, thank you! My player grabbed superior technique and we weren't sure what the deal was. I thought maybe it was design for specific use for Battle Master. Seeing this, I was able to create the feat and properly apply it. Thanks so much!
Luckily I was able to use the workaround to create the fighting style. In addition my Fighter (all characters in the campaign) were granted 1st level feats, so I have Martial Adept as well, so hes a mini Battlemaster at 1st with 3 techniques and 2 superiority dice.

Based on the second post in this thread, how is the Martial Adept feat functional but not the Superior Technique fighting style? They are basically the same thing just with a different number of selectable maneuvers. Someone please help me understand.
Fighting styles are programmed as class feature Options, but there are no Options for Options so it cannot be programmed. There are Options for feats, so that feat can be programmed.
When I select the fighter archetype I am unable to select manoeuvre and I see no dice counter in my character sheet. Is this a known issue?

I never got a notification that others had posted on this topic. I'm glad to see I was able to help.
If you already have the martial adept feat this doesnt work though so its still a problem
You don’t take the Martial Adept feat as the workaround, you make a homebrewed feat using that feat as a template as the workaround.

2 years later and still no change huh?
Yup, but hey, the workaround still works 😅
6 years later and no fix. Clearly they are working hard on that solution...
6 years? It been just over 2 years since the original post, 2.5 years since Tasha's. But it does seem like they are taking their time on this.
They probably looked at the poster’s “join date,” it’s a fairly common mistake.
