I'm leveling up my ranger tiefling to level 4, which gives him the option to add +2 to one ability score or +1 to two scores. However when I try to add them, Ive only successfully gotten one point to add to anything. Beyond that it wont add any other points regardless which two ive selected. For example, I tried adding +2 to INT and it would only add 1, and I tried adding +1 to INT and CHA but it would only add 1 to INT and nothing to CHA. Ive tried many different combinations and all have the same result. None add up to 20 and I havent overridden anything. Im not sure what to do. Can anyone help?
No, Im in the Class section. I was leveling up my character and clicked the new Ability Score Improvement section that had the drop down menu to choose whether I wanted the +2 or a feat. When I chose the Ability Score Improvement option and it gave me the two drop down menus to choose which abilities I want to add to. However, no matter which I choose, it will only add +1 to one of them, and thats it. It seems like a glitch. For example, I can choose for both points to go to INT and only 1 will add. If i choose for 1 to go to INT and 1 to CHA it will only add 1 to INT. If i choose for both points to go to CHA it will only add 1 to CHA. It wont allow more than one point at all. ( I only mentioned none adding to 20 and that i hadnt overridden anything bc i saw similar forum posts solved because of that, but neither are my problem)
https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/AshleyGoldy/characters/6669252 I hope this is the right link. I still cant seem to get it to work. Sorry for the delay, tropical storms are around here. Right now I have it set to give +2 to INT but it wont give it. Just for context if it helps to know.
Also, an additional random question, Do I have to purchase feats in order to have the feats option?

I get a broken link with that. To answer your question yes, you do have to purchase feats to use them.

It is adding +2 to your Intelligence ability score. But your INT modifier is the value you get when you subtract 10 from the score, then cut it in half. That's why it feels like the second +1 doesn't seem to apply.
Edit: Don't worry this is a common confusion for new people. It means that only even-numbered ability scores really "matter" for changing your ability modifier, which is the thing that affects your skills and saves and such. Since your Intelligence was 9 before the ASI, you would do well to put +1 to INT so that you get a round 10 (+0), and put the other +1 to DEX for a round 16 (+3).
What naruhoodie is trying to say is there is a difference between your character’s “Intelligence Score” (11), and their “Intelligence Modifier” (+0). Just like your character’s Dexterity Score (15), or Wisdom Score (14) and your character’s Dexterity or Wisdom Modifiers (both +2).
So, for instance, if you put 1 point into your character’s Intelligence Score to get it to 10 (so it stops having a -1 modifier), and put the second point into, say, Mr. Poudretteite‘s Dexterity Score, raising that to 16. Then his Dex modifier would be +3, and he would have better AC, and would be more accrue and do more damage with his Longbow and Shortswords. Or if you instead put it into his Constitution score (raising it from 13 to 14), then his Constitution modifier would go up to +2, and Bondievi would gain 4 HP.
Oh!! Thank you! I was looking at the wrong numbers, I wondered if it was something I was missing. I totally understand that I was looking at the wrong thing, although Im a little confused by the math of it. So, is what you mean, subtract 10 as a universal thing for all scores or just for INT im not sure where the 10 is coming from? Im really confused I hope thats not a dumb question, sorry for the trouble. I cant seem to get a handle on the math parts of it haha.
Oh! Thank you! I get it now, and I do remember the 10 = +0, 12 = +1, 20 = +5, 9 = -1, 7 = -2 thing IamSposta said from when I did all my reading, I just totally forgot it. That 2020 brain rot lol. Thank you Naruhoodie for explaining the math!! That helps a ton. Thank you all for helping! I really appreciate it! (Also, thanks for actually using Bondievi's last name lol its been 2 years and my DM still cant even say or spell it X'D she does her best tho, we joke about it

Are you trying to add your ASIs in the Abilities section instead of the Class section of the character builder?

If his Int was 10 before, then you only put 1 point into it making it an 11. The math is more complicated than the Logic, just remember:

Yeah, you subtract 10 from any ability score and then cut it in half to get the modifier. Basically, 10 is the average score.
