I'm running an Artificer and both spells just don't seem to work. They're added to my list but have no to hit or damage values attached to them, if I roll them I get a "0 Undefined" message, abs can't display it as an attack. I'm looking back at tickets from 2018 and it looks like the way these spells operates was changed, broken and never fixed. Am I missing something?
They work differently from other attack spells, as you make a melee attack as part of the casting. So you roll To-Hit for the weapon you're using to make the attack, as well as the regular damage roll for the weapon.
As for the "0 Undefined", it's because before you reach character level 5, the spell doesn't do damage unless the secondary condition is met (another target within 5ft of the one you hit with the weapon for GFB, the target of BB using its movement before the start of your next turn.) But there's still a placeholder for the damage inflicted with the attack, since at level 5 and up you do cause the elemental damage on the initial attack.
Unfortunately, the Dice Roller is currently unable to roll the secondary damage on your Spells, and yeah, it doesn't have anything it can do with the primary roll until you're level 5.
The main workaround right now is to create a custom attack with the right details, or else roll manually.
I know how the spells work I'm level 11. I should be seeing 2d8 for the base damage, I'm not. Forget the splash damage. I can't even customize the spell to put it in my Actions section if I wanted. Having a workaround doesn't mean its not broken.
Okay. I have Booming Blade myself, just bumped up to level 11 to test it, and I see 2d8 thunder damage for the primary roll, as expected.
Is it possible you have a homebrew version of the spell? If you look at the spell details in the sidebar, and you see a line with "Version:" instead of "Source: SCAG, pg. 142", then it's a homebrew which could have errors.
Edit: Oh, another possibility, are you running a browser extension like Beyond20? There have been some issues with it of late.
No homebew, I've had thay setting turned off from jump. And I'm using D&D Beyond on my phone, not PC so no Beyond20. Looks like someone saw this and fixed the damage so at least I see the 2d8 now. Still can't display it as an attack/action for the base damage at least. I think this is by design, but it seems like bad design. I can put Cure Wounds and Mending as attacks but not spells that trigger on a hit. Basically forcing the user to jump around pages or create their own customs.
You can also simply roll Xd8 from anywhere on you screen using the convenient dice tray in the lower left hand corner in the FAB, no specific button required on any page.

You cannot make them display as attacks because they require the weapon attacks. It gets attached to the weapons.
