I am attempting to homebrew a spellfire class or feat and I'd like to be able to scale damage by charges that I could use as spellfire points. Is there anyway to do this? I can create a spell, but I see no way to scale damage this way. I'd like it to be say, a base damage of 1d6, but if I use 10 charges (or points), it allows me to roll 10d6 (removing the charges/points).
Yes, DDB does not currently support the optional rule for Spell Points, only the standard rules for Spell Slots. WotC has published no other “point-based spellcasting,” and DDB only supports official WotC published content.
Having reread your post, I think I misunderstood before.
You don’t mean as a Spell, you mean as an Action, don’t you? There are no “points” that could be added like you want. You could add a number of “Uses,” but there is no way to have the system combine multiple uses into one big use like that, no. And the system cannot currently support anything intended to be “temporary,” or “adjustable,” either.* The only thing it can scale like that is spells, and only by Spell Level (like the leveled spells), or by caster level (like Cantrips). The only way to adjust spell level is by casting with a higher level spell slot.
Even if you tried to hack a workaround with a spell attached to a magic item with charges, if you set it to be able to use more charges than would take that spell to 9th- level, it will either not work or most likely just crash character sheets. For example, if a 1st level spell gets set with a Min Charges = 1 and Max = 10, 💥 crashed character sheet (possibly without even trying to casting that spell).
*(Togglable/Modal/Scalable, whatever anyone wants to call it.)
The character class I am working on, is a Spellfire Channeler Wizard. It is able to absorb spell levels and expel them to fuel a variety of powers.
I was able to set the absorption up, but I was hoping to be able to at least simulate an attack that would roll the appropriate number of dice per use.
In this case, the character can use up to his Constitution in spell levels per turn, so if a character had a constitution of 15 and wanted to use all points in one attack he could for a potential of15d6 damage (on a failed save). Is there no way to simulate this while also making allowances for every other possible roll that character could choose from 1d6 to 14d6?
Not mechanically and automatically, no. At least not currently. But every DDB digital sheet has the dice trey in the lower left corner, it’s not difficult for a player to simply choose to roll any number of d6 desired at any given time. Players just have to do some stuff for themselves.
