I'm quite a big fan of homebrew content, and I'm looking for a way to make a racial trait that is only unlocked at later levels. Namely, I want a racial trait that changes some Ability Scores (using modifiers) that unlocks at level 5, and I have set "Required character level" to 5. However, when I set this to "Granted", it gives it to me at level 1, and when I set it to "Additional", it is never granted, even at level 5. Am I doing something wrong?
That depends. If you had initially set it to happen at character creation and then changed it 5th level afterwords what might work (maybe) is if you re-save the whole race again. That might trigger the system to update, but it’ll take at least 20 minutes for it to cache up, and you might need to change races on your character sheet and then change it back again to find out.
However, since all of the official races with traits that kick in at higher levels only have Actions on those traits and not ASIs, it might just be something the system can’t do. You’ll have to try re-saving and find out. 🤷♂️
Like I'm making a version of a kitsune and I Wana make it so it fits a new tail at a set level and it gans new suf for etch tail like custom spells stat boneses and new attacks

I understand completely what you’re going for with that. Unfortunately there is no way to properly automate that process in DDB’s system. You could have those higher level tails add new attacks, sure. And you could even attach spells to them and the PC won’t gain the spells until the appropriate levels, although if you grant them a choice of spells it’ll let them choose those spells right at character creation. But the stat bonuses will all get applied immediately at character creation, there’s no way around that. You would have to list those bonuses in plain text and the player will have to customize their character sheet manually to reflect those bonuses at the appropriate levels.
You could try setting up a Feat to accomplish what you want. restrict the feat to a set level and perhaps a required Co-Feat.
Naming the feat to make it obvious it isn't for everyone would also help: IE
Feat: Tail Swag
prerequesites:
Description: 5th level only - with tail / Associated type and sub-types: Level-character level: 5 + Feat - (Your choice)

Hi all, was this issue ever resolved? I‘ve run into the same issue on a species that I’m homebrewing (details on this thread).
I have selected the appropriate level on each trait in the species creation page but they all still appear active at level 1.
Any help would be appreciated as this seems a completely bonkers issue when you consider that the tooltip specifically states that those is what that function should achieve.

You’re not doing anything wrong. The system has certain limitations when it comes to stuff like that.

Is there no way to make this work? Sorry, I should have made my question clearer.

So you can't
What? Make a race that grants a feat at a higher level? As I described earlier I don’t think so.
