I created 2 sub-races for one of my homebrew races and while the 2 sub-races show up in the character creator, the race itself does not. Is this related to the new race groups? If so, will custom race groups be available anytime soon?
Before the race "folders," parent races (ones with subraces, not ones with variants) never showed up in the builder, because you can't choose the parent race, only one of the subraces. Now the official parent races appear, but only as a category/menu level. Homebrew subraces (or variants) of official races can be "filed" under these parent races. It doesn't appear that homebrewed parent races are able to do that yet, but it's been requested several times. Thanks for adding your voice to the requests!

Ah, makes sense. I’ve only DM’d since using DDB so most of my NPCs that I made were made months ago and I haven’t spent much time in the creator since.
Is there a link to a feature request for the devs anywhere? I need this feature as well, but would like to keep up to date on any progress or word on it from the devs.
I had this same problem and had assumed that I just didn't configure something properly. It's somewhat refreshing to know that it's not just me...but also disheartening because I'm not sure how to go about resolving this for my players.
Spent days trying to work through this issue before getting here, obviously without success. As a subscriber, I feel this should be readily available. Why it is not already is beyond me seeing as the "official" races have that feature.
Gonna add my voice to this. It would be nice if homebrew parent races appeared as race groups with subs and variant underneath so they're not scattered through the race selection list. I've got a Half-Giant homebrew race with 12 subraces. Right now I just have two main subraces with a race feature option functioning as the subrace selection. I want to make 12 subraces so it looks a d functions better and so it'll be ready to share, but I don't want them scattered all over.
Exact same situation here. (And oddly enough, giant-kin related too lol!) I can't seem to find a way for my players to view the parent race details page anywhere. They can only select the sub races that give out the extra details the sub race provides.
You are not missing anything. This is just an issues that gets reported every few months, much like the custom class request. I'd say you could keep an eye on their feature map, but something tells me that integrating more purchasable content is higher on their list for fiduciary reasons.

When they choose the subrace, the details from your core race should also be shown in the builder, and on the character sheet. You can also provide users within a campaign that you're inside of a direct link to your private homebrew race.
I would also like to add my voice here. Character creating is by far my absolute favorite thing to do on D&D Beyond. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong when it came to programming in my homebrew races. I hope they add this soon, as having too many homebrew races, sub races and, variants clutters up the menus quite a bit. The biggest problem being that, with content sharing with my friends enabled, it becomes a problem for everyone.
This thread is certainly active, but I think it exists more as a coping mechanism for everyone that's encountered this. We can all lean each other and validate that we didn't do something wrong when we created the subclass. It's just a broken feature, that's all. It's a QoL request so I'm sure the priority on this will never get close enough to be considered by the dev team when they're being pushed to integrate more content that can be upsold to existing subscribers.
Ok, so this is truthfully my first post and I have to disagree, I've been looking over the site for over a year and only recently joined, I do see the push for new content but with more content come more bugs so ergo everyone gets to wait a bit longer is all. As a DM for over 30 years myself I love all of the tools that this site gives us, yes there are a few kinks like this one (that is admittedly a gaping hole for publishing) but Personally I can not agree that we are getting brushed off. This topic is not number one on the Priority list, certainly, but not brushed off.
The DNDBeyond Trello board states "homebrew revamp" to be done in the long term, so I'm guessing we won't see this feature soon. Which, in all fairness, is immensely annoying for those of us who spent time putting our races into this system. We are currently unable to present our custom subraces to our players in a structured and/or fashionable manner. It makes us look lazy and/or disorganized. However, I can also understand that the feature is of minor importance compared to other pending features.
For people looking for an alternative or temporary workaround: You can either dump your subraces into an official race group and inform your players where to find them, or prefix your subraces with the name of the parent race. This will list them together in the main race list.

thats a cool idea i hadnt thought of that! I'll try that out and see how that works, thank you the advice.
In the short term couldn't you make the subraces into variants? (you would have the manipulate the stats in order for it to function as a subrace). At least in that regard, it may be categorized correctly.
I’m going to add another voice to this. Tonight is my first night messing around with home brew race creation, and there’s several spots throughout the process that make it seem like home brew race-subrace is functionality that’s supposed to be there, but it simply doesn’t work the way I’m sure they want it to (for home brew races to have the same functionality as official races).
In the meantime I will have to get creative with some sort of workaround...but it’s just kind of annoying that it will have to exist in a somewhat broken state for the foreseeable future.

@Piurafunk: I've seen their roadmap floated around, but not sure if they expose more detailed progress to the rest of the world:

I'm developing a campaign in which I intend only to use homebrew races & subraces, so it would be awesome to have the requested feature at hand.
Let's hope it will be implemented in the nearest future :-)
