I'm trying to make a joke item that is like a belt of hill giant strength, but it lowers your strength score to 6. I used the set, strength and set it to 6, but it won't lower a character's strength score. Am I doing something wrong?
No. That’s all working properly exactly as it’s been designed to function. The Set->Ability Score sets a base minimum for that score, the system will always automatically default to the higher score.
You could combine it with the following Modifier, I believe this would work:
What that combination of Modifiers should do is apply a negative “bonus” so big it would definitively reduce the PC’s Str to 6 or lower no matter how high their actual score is, and then the Set score should kick in. That’s if everything works the way it’s sposta work. (Should.)
