I am looking for a way to insert an image into my forum posts. I see the icon for 'insert image' but when I click on the icon it brings up a dialogue box asking for a source, not a folder location.
Does that mean that uploading a screen cap from my local computer is not possible? Do I have to host the image on an online location and then retrieve a url for that image? The latter option, is, shall we say, a tad inconvenient.
I am hosting the photo I want to insert on googlephotos. Every time I try to insert it I just end up with a 1/4”x1/4” empty square. I am an iPad/iPhone user if that matters.

Hello! Googlephotos doesn't provide an image URL that you can embed into a post. I would recommend using a service such as Imgur, which will give you a sharing link that ends with the image extension (such as .jpg, .gif or .png) which you can embed into a post.
With Googlephotos, you can share a link to the image, which another individual can view on Googlephotos.
Any way to insert from Dropbox? I only get a minuscule square. And if I paste an image, I see it when I edit, but as soon as I press "save changes", it does now show anymore. I have an initiative roll screen capture in this post.

No, because this website doesn't host the photos, it only displays photos being hosted elsewhere. As was stated earlier in this thread, you have to host the photos somewhere like Imgur first, then you can insert the link on DDB and the image will display.

Thanks. Then why is it when I PASTE and image, I see it but it disappears once I post the reply?
Like for instance, I'd like to post screen captures of the character sheets dice rolls or the game log. But I can't do it easily. Unless I'm missing something. Uploading an image on imgur then sharing it for a dice roll seems a heavy mechanic.

To display images in forum posts, you need to host that image somewhere on the internet.
That can be on your own website, or any popular image hosting site.
When you click the "insert image" button on a D&D Beyond forum post, you need to post the url (internet address) of the image.

so im using imgur as the image hosting site and have the link for the image but when i "insert link" it still shows up as a broken image
Here are the steps I use to host images (with embedded images for maximum Inception!)
Hope this helps (and comes across as a little silly and not patronising)
that helps a lot. Thanks !

Why not just look at the dice log? Everyone in the whole DDB campaign can now see everybody's dice rolls in the log.

Because most of us are on phones when we play by post. Many features are out of reach, including the dice log (for now).
Thank you, Davyd.
This is what I was looking for. Your message doesn't come across as patronising at all. It is instead very clear and useful. Cheers!
In case it helps
