Is there a way to homebrew a non-magical item? If not can there be. I also noticed that there is no place to list the cost of a homebrewed item. That really should be something you can determine prior to saving your creations.
There is no way to create a generic mundane item that you have everyone pick but you do have a way to create custom mundane items on your character sheet. Go to the Inventory section and choose to add a custom item. You can type in a name, description, set the gold cost and weight and specify notes. Even if quantity goes to 0 it stays on the sheet until you remove it. It's a good way to track this type of stuff. I often use this for material components that have a cost for spells since I play spellcasters. I actually appreciate the freedom to set them up the way I want that makes the most sense for me.
As for the gold cost of homebrewed items: aside from the custom on-sheet items mentioned above the homebrew items are magic items and most of these do not have set costs. Seriosly, go look up a magic item in the DMG: can you say what the precise cost is for a Bag of Holding? Nope. Because prices will vary by region, by merchant and different DMs will have different base prices for different campaigns. The DMG has a basic "price-range by rarity" that might be useful but items typically don't have a set cost. This is by the design of the game. The cost of a Bag of Holding may be small in a magic-is-abundant type of game but will be really expensive in a magic-is-rare type of game.
Homebrew magic items, and any homebrew thing you make, should be made with the idea of not being campaign-specific. Therefore having a set price field for magic items is counter-intuitive.

It is y'all lucky day! I just created a pitchfork (the regular, pitchin' hay thing) by creating a magic item, using the Trident +1 as a base, and removing the magic part. I am a freakin' genius. You're welcome.
The problem with using a trident for a pitchfork is that the trident is a martial weapon. I usually use a spear for stuff like a pitchfork since it’s simple and otherwise statistically identical, and use a trident for stuff like a bayonet.
These replies are from before 2020?? You'd think WOTC would use the newfound interest in DND to get this sort of thing figured out. Creating a nonmagical item should have already been a thin. And also, why do you have to use another weapon as the base? This is all so dissapointing.

I have no idea why this isn't in already. The framework is already there, if they want people people like us who are buying into their ecosystem they really need to start improving and adding to it before most of us just cut our losses and move onto one that has more updated features.

Looks like Cyb3rM1nd already answered most things in more detail than I would.
I will add that homebrew base equipment are planned.
Homebrew generic mundane items should be a thing! Pleaze devs!
Completely agree. I would love this function! :D

It's so frustrating that it STILL isn't a thing.
