apologies if this has been answered before, I looked all over.
I was wondering if I purchase the player's handbook, and create a bunch of unassigned characters with content from that book for my campaign, would all the players that claim those unassign characters lose the feats and backgrounds that came from the player's handbook if they them selves didn't purchase it?
Yes, as long as you also have a Master Tier subscription, and you turn on content sharing in the campaign options.

You don't know what fear is until you've witnessed a drunk bird divebombing you while carrying a screaming Kobold throwing fire anywhere and everywhere.
I am not sure if this is intended behavior or not, but if you create the character for them and then they claim it, the player would not lose anything.
If a character is created either by someone who owns the content or via content sharing and that content is lost to that character, they will keep that content.
HOWEVER, they will not be able to add any of the locked content back to the character if it is removed.

This is what I was going to say.
I've also seen people mention there may be an issue when leveling up, but have not seen anyone claim to have actually experienced this.
ah ok I see, I need the master subscription to be able to share content.. I missed that detail. So in theory, a few months of the master subscription would equate to a players handbook... so maybe don't subscribe just for that
it's just gets so expensive... if I want to host my son and wife, that is 90 bucks in books, just for one book.. which in reality we would just share if it was physical.. but I understand the reasoning behind it
The easiest solution I've found is to get the master tier and the dmg and players handbook with a good coupon 6/month +50ish. This will get you the magic items to add to the player options. Then buy just what you and your family need from tthe other books as you need it with an occasional homebrew. When what you need makes the book cheap go ahead and snag. It took me almost 2 years to get most of them and flip to the legendary. Then I just buy new stuff as it comes out but it's nowhere near necessary.
yep, exactly, I purchased the phb and the master subscription. we already built a character for my son with the content, its perfect. good call on the dmg, I forgot all those items it has. I will probably wait until our module rewards something that I don't have .
you folks have been done helpful, thanks a bunch

There are a couple of workarounds to having to buy more content. If you have any other questions, just post here.
