The Steel Defender stat block that appears in the Extras section of my lvl 8 Artificer character sheet does not properly reflect the "Might of the Master" number increases from my proficiency bonus. Changes can be observed in the Skills section of the stat block (though still applied incorrectly to Athletics), but not in the Saving Throws or the Actions sections.
This is a limitation of the current DDB framework. The saving throws in stat blocks are generated automatically and can be modified. The actions tab is a glorified description box that cant isolate any values to have modifiers applied.
I believe these may be fixed as part of the planned monster builder update, but I don't think they can be hot fixed.
It’s not a “problem,” just a design limitation. In case you haven’t received the news: the DDB team is redesigning both the creation system (the homebrew creator that we use and the content creator they use are basically the same thing, we just don’t get the admin access) and the character sheet (which is integrated with the creation system in order to function).
They have been at it for almost a year so they might actually be nearing completion soon. I know they are testing things now with a sample from the subscribers, once they are finished testing we will all get to benefit from their work.
This feature may be part of this system update. It might be part of a follow-up update if they are doing the monster creator update (and so therefore also the Extras section of the sheet) separately.
Either way, they have to update the whole monsters section sooner or later anyway since the functionality will be important for the Encounter Builder and Combat Tracker to have the capacity to do the things that the DMs who are playtesting those products are requesting as part of the whole Alpha/Beta process.
Actually this issue is also affecting the rend attack and the repair abilities as well. The only things that are updating correcting on mine are the skill bonuses.

I've noticed the same behaviour - At level 3 I get the SD, and my prof. bonus is +2 at level 3. This wording of "Might of the master" implies that this means that every increase in your proficiency bonus beyond 2 increases the steel defender's stats by 1
The following numbers increase by 1 when your proficiency bonus increases by 1: the defender’s skill and saving throw bonuses (above), the bonuses to hit and damage of its rend attack, and the number of hit points restored by its Repair action (below).
Obviously, the action block doesn't seem to get updated automatically, so we have to track these ourselves, but also for the skills, athletics seems to get overcalculated (giving you a very athletic defender), while the saves appear completely ignored, and perception seems to be the only stat correctly tracked.

The +2 Proficiency bonus you already have doesn’t get applied, only the increases to your Proficiency bonus that you receive after gaining the defender get applied.
Greetings from the end of June. Just got my steel defender. Artificer page says force empowered rend's attack is based on your spell attack modifier. Mine is currently 5 but my sheet even after an update says it's 4.

Several of the new features and spells present Monster Statblocks which scale with your character. This includes spells that summon other creatures. The system to handle these creatures is still under development but we have included inline stat blocks wherever possible to help you reference the stats you need.

The issue here is is that its put into a thread from a release that is over 6 months ago so people arent going to be looking for such when such gets updated. All they see is the thread mentioning Tasha's and not even look there for the answers to their question. To me I see a pinned thread that is over 100 pages in length and go "Nope, not even going to look in there" lol
Not to mention not everyone owns Tasha's, so they wont be looking at a feedback thread for such.
Just an observation from the view of someone who doesnt always buy all the books unless they are really wanted in their games.
Well, I can’t really help any of that. And I don’t work here, I just live here, so your observation is probably best made to someone else. All I can do is provide the answer you were looking for and a link so you can see for your self that I’m not just making it up.
As to the the pinned thread with 100 pages: Whenever a new source comes out DDB makes on of those threads. The very first post is always the list of stuff that needs fixin’, the second post is the stuff that grot fixed and removed from the first post. So it could be a bagillion posts long, you only ever need to look at the first two posts on the very first page, the staff update those two posts regularly to reflect the improvements. They make and the updates they have implemented. (As you can see by the link, that was from the very first comment.)
As to not looking at a thread because it’s 6months old: As I have stated, the thread age is irrelevant, those threads get updated regularly by the staff. That thread was created Nov 13, 2020; but it was updated only just 3 months ago, with more updates inevitable in future.
As to not everyone owning Tasha’s: The entire Artificer class was adjusted and reprinted in Tasha’s, so that’s where the info is. Again, nothing I can do about that.
Hopefully that information will help you discover these answers for yourself more quickly in future as you’ll know where to look. I hope that helps.

This problem is still present :(

My point being, keep an eye out for it.

This implies the following formula:
At level 5, we SEE
bonus[athletics] = 4 + 3 = 7,
AND
bonus[perception = 4 + (3-2) = 5
In reality, both should be 5
Obviously, the action block doesn't seem to get updated automatically, so we have to track these ourselves, but also for the skills, athletics seems to get overcalculated (giving you a very athletic defender), while the saves appear completely ignored, and perception seems to be the only stat correctly tracked.
