For example, if I make a homebrew magic dagger. Let's say it's a fire dagger. Daggers normally do 1d4. I want this one to do the normal 1d4 piercing + 1d6 fire damage. In the homebrew item, I add a modifier, choose damage, choose type fire, choose 1d6. Everything is saved there, but when I add that item to a character sheet, it still just says the damage is 1d4 piercing + Dex mod. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?
Currently modifier damage does not show up in weapons like you are expecting for your homebrew item. We have it in the backlog to improve additional weapon damage like you are wanting. Thank ya for the report.
I found a workaround for showing the damage you want in the character sheet.
You can add the modifier "natural weapon" and select the damage type and dice for the damage then it will show as a melee attack in your character sheet. Unfortunately different die in one attack are not possible =/
If you select item and not weapon as base item type then you wont have the "normal" attack of your weapon listed as attack.
Your post was in 2017 that's a 3 year gap, is there any new information? I'm trying to make my own gun and the automatic rifle damage for base isn't showing up
Weapons have displayed additional damage dice for some time now. below is a an official time with additional 2d6 fire damage (top) and a homebrew item with additional 3d4 lightning (bottom).
The character sheet has changed a lot since this thread was started, so might be worth adding some clarifying information as to what you're expecting/asking for?
How do you do this in the homebrew creation? It is so confusing and there really isn't a way to see it clearly. Also, how do I add an ability to add sneak attack damage to each attack?
In homebrew, you want to add the following modifier:
Modifier Type: Damage
Modifier Subtype: Whatever damage type the bonus damage is. If you want it to match the weapon, you'll have to set it as the same type as the weapon
Dice Count: The number of dice the additional damage rolls
Die Type: The size of the dice the additional damage rolls
Details: If the damage is conditional and has criteria, put that here
For example, flametongue weapons have:
Modifier Type: Damage
Modifier Subtype: Fire
Dice Count: 2
Die Type: d6
Details: While ignited
As for sneak attack, you can't currently add that to every attack automatically, but there is a Sneak Attack option in your 'Other' attacks under the Attacks tab. It will automatically have the right damage dice so you can just click that to roll your sneak attack damage:

I'd really like an update on this also as it's been way too long without being able to do something so simple.
This also seems to be the case with the thrown weapon fighting style from Tasha's as well.
Any update???
I am gonna guess the answer is no to that update here.....
4 years later and no go lmfao

Still cannot get it to work. Basically, I want to create a longbow that does its regular damage, and also does an additional 2d6
..
I just made a magic longbow with the modifier you're trying to set up and it worked for me
This modifier:
Gives this result in the character sheet, displaying the extra damage

It won’t add it to the roll, the system can’t do that yet. It just puts a little note there to remind you to roll it yourself separately.
