And you can see it in the listings and in tooltips, like this: stench kow.
Eventually, hopefully, they'll figure out how to enable homebrew using non-free content.
BadEye said they have something coming that will allow us to create homebrew from non-free content that you own and also share it in your compaign like you do with your books you bough and share with the master tier subscription in your campaign so i guess for the homebrew it will also required a subscription so you can share it with your group
I don't understand why published homebrew couldn't have icons on it that say "this homebrew content requires source XYZ and ABC to be able to access, please purchase these items at the market place to have access to this homebrew" or even not allow users to see that homebrew unless they have the required source books. And if someone gets access through sharing let them see it then if they add it to a character then they stop the content sharing do the exact same as you with official content when they loose access to a source boom.
You could determine which sources books are needed by the skeleton they build from and the spells/monsters/items that are added to the homebrew.
I was very encouraged by the Q&A stream wherein BadEye addressed this, saying it is in the works. The team is working to bring us the tool we want, and I don't know where this change fits in with the various projects that are scheduled (hopefully in with expanding homebrew to include feats, races, and subclasses if not sooner), but I'm sure they won't let us down. There for a while I was worried this was something that just wasn't going to happen at all, possibly due legal/contractual/infernal reasons, but those fears are gone.
Also some of the very basic creatures like the Helmed Horror are missing, which is a real shame.
Any and all free* access monsters can be used as templates as can any monsters to which you have purchased access. If you want to use the Helmed Horror, you have to purchase either the Monsters Manual,** or at least that spell from that book.
Hi, I have shared content for my Campaign and would like to see the monsters from shared content be available from the template. Is this something you are considering?

Doubtful, that would basically be tantamount to giving them away for free.
Hey I noticed none of the Candlekeep monsters seem to exist in the homebrew template section. I have bought the content, but when trying to use one as a template they do not exist in the template section. Is there a reason for this anyone knows of?
So far I have noticed the Death Knight and some "back of the book" creatures from Volo's, like Swashbuckler.
That is intentional for all the non-free content.

No. No ETA that I know of.
But I paid for that content.

3 years later - found this thread with hope. Saw post date. Immediate darkness around me.

I found this thread for the same reason. I own Candlekeep, but monsters not showing up in homebrew template section.
