I didn't have time to read to the end so my suggestion may have been made already. It would be helpful to have a tactics suggestions tab or button for the DM. So if there is a random encounter they can see how to best use a monster rather than a number of hit points that stabs with a sword. For example, goblins can ambush and take the hide action as a bonus action.
Yes, exactly sedge. I find that if I miss an important monster ability my encounters become little more than throwing hit points against players. The monster descriptions often give these tactical suggestions anyway so I guess maybe a pop up of tactics that helps a DM make the most of the creatures under his control. For instance a dragon doesn't have to engage in melee combat but can pick up a player and fly away and then drop him doing 20d6 fall damage or stay out of range using lair actions and recharging his breath weapon. I suppose some ways to use the monsters to their best effect.
Quick question, forgive me if it was already answered. Will there be artwork commissioned for all monsters. I noticed some monsters do not have artwork. If we (and this connects to the forum listing about using this program on devices like Ipad) use this on devices and in encounters we can show the creatures, it would be useful.

Yes, there will be all the proper artwork for the final release.
The filter buttons, except the "all" button, have an "on" and "off" state. If you selected "humanoids" then selected "undead", you have chosen to view both types. You have to uncheck "humanoids" to see just undead.
I am sure that this has already been adressed but the forum is huge. Will you be adding the mosters from Wizards official campaign books? Storm Kings Thunder, Out of the Abyss, etc....? Crag Cat for example?
I'd reconsider the taxonomy used for certain monsters with multiple versions.
For example, use Dragon, ancient blue. This way ALL dragons will be together instead of spread out by age adjective as with current naming. Even the books have them all together, so this breakup is counter intuitive.

Eventually, all official published content will be available. :)
my biggest wish for the monster compendium is ALOT more background stuff for monsters like in earlier editions...
This would be nice. We might get more "flavor" to the monsters once it goes live with the MM included. If we don't, as DMs we get to adlib in the spice. ;)

Something I would find useful, as a fairly unexperienced DM, would be some sort of bookmarking system, so that I could have a list of what creatures the party will most likely encounter throughout that day's session. This way I could spend less time breaking immersion, and have the creatures stats readily at hand.
Another feature that might be useful, assuming it's not coming in part 3 of the beta, would be some sort of program where you could just have a small list for establishing initiatives, health points, and other combat essential information. You could queue up monsters from the compendium, and have them there for easy, short-term reference.

"If you live by the sword, you die by the knife."
When accessing the humanoid section I had no problem but when trying to move from that to undead it would only bring me to the humanoid section again.

Is there a way to filter the Monsters by Attack type? I am looking for creatures that use Rock, Javelin, or Ranged Weapon Attacks in general.
Also, is there a way to filter incorporeal creatures, or creatures that can go Ethereal?
At that point may as well give a dm the ability to create encounter groups. Then as you play through you just toggle through your encounter groups...
