I'm very upset with this choice. I'm a DM, and therefore don't get to make very many of my own characters for when I play in a friend's campaign. Finally got into a new campaign, went to go purchase a specific subclass... and poof, can't do it anymore.
This is really rather upsetting, especially because I DO purchase entire books, which is what I think they want. As a DM, I'll purchase a new book to take a look at certain subclasses, new info, new artwork etc. But now, when I'm trying to save some money, I get punished and they try to force me to buy the whole book instead? It's really just rather upsetting, and a definitive reason to show that dnd beyond getting picked up by wizards of the coast was going to have long-term consequences. Thanks, Hasbro.
It seems to be working for me, now. The Planescape book page now shows the full price of $49.99 struck out and beside it the discounted price of $44.99, which makes sense based on my former a la carte purchases from that book.
Interesting it seems to be working for you do you have any of the bundle discounts?, I still only get my legendary bundle discount on the books I have bought piece meal from, and based on this correction posted by LaTiaJacquise it appears the new way is here for a while longer.
I don't have any of the bundle discounts, at least not that I remember. Because they killed the online records of order history, I cannot even check though!

Does the order history tab on your account page not show bundles?

A small update for ya, though I wish I had more: I was told today that the marketplace has been updated to reflect any discounts you should receive from any previous individual purchases. You should no longer need to contact Customer Support to receive that discount.
Hello again~
So I want to offer a clarification and an apology to y'all, because this info is incorrect. I misinterpreted the information I was given through no fault of the person who gave it to me. I think I was so excited to be able to give y'all some kind of win that I didn't stop to ask for clarification first. That's 100% on me. I did seek that clarification after a few folks mentioned they were still unable to see those discounts in the marketplace.
The TL;DR is that while we've made it a bit easier on Customer Support's side to issue those discounts, you will still have to go through CS to get them. Again, I apologize for the incorrect info.
I respect that it's out of your hands ... But putting the ownership on us, and the responsibility on us to have to cross reference what we own and what we need, then have to lodge a ticket for a discount code is unacceptable. Especially for those of us who live outside of the US and have to wait 16-24 hours on a response when your ticket response footnotes state "email support is available 24/7". Seriously, I waited 19 hours on a response to an email back and all it was was a copy pasted of the first email Seth sent me. Completely disrespectful. Going through CS just is not viable.
I understand you're a community manager. But, if the decision making is out of your hands, you're no longer the person who should be handling feedback and responding to the outrage. The people answering our questions and responding to our anger are the people who made these decisions. I hate that I'm sounding like a Karen here, but like ... If you're the manager and you can't offer suitable solutions to these issues - I wanna speak to your manager
Not every DM uses D&D Beyond with a master subscription to share the $100's of dollars they spent. Not all DM's even ask that their players use one specific platform for character sheets either.
I use content share, and while I don't expect my players to use Beyond, they do anyway, because it is convenient. However, I hate reading books on screen, so if a book interests me, I will buy a hard copy, and if here's any character options of value for my games, I buy those on Beyond so my players can use them. Piecemeal was the ideal scheme for me. So there's that for another facet of the argument.

DDB to me is the best way to on board new players (I play pre '24 5e exclusively and am not ok with the direction wizbro is taking D&D), however if they continue to be as heavy handed as they have been since Tasha's/the acquisition of DDB by wizbro I will just go back to pencil and paper when/if wotc continues to walk their current path. At this point I have 0 confidence in the current (yes current) owners of the IP I am old enough to remember how TSR failed, and it appears wizbro just wants to replicate TSR's epic failures.
+1 million
So glad I have physical books to protect my investment from being forced down the path wizbro has chosen. Good luck with the buying power of the group wotc has chosen to hang their shareholders money on, I will be around for the next steward just like I was when TSR pooped the bed. Many of the new players just want to play, they have no use for the politics wotc deems important and our groups have learned we can play D&D without wotc/wizbro
I dare/encourage wizbro to FA&FO, though it is the flattest learning curve available; one has to wonder if they can survive the education they are hopefully about to receive.
One just has to ponder how/why they think a 50 year old IP that anyone can just hop off of at anytime while still play the game wotc seems to be intent on driving the needed customers away from just to show an ROI to the investors, waiting for the divestment of the shareholders so this game can remain profitable. Vote with your wallet and remember if you don't buy they will change it is the law they will die by. If they want to ignore us we should go to other platforms regardless of what we have paid DDB.
Any update from WOTC about a-la carte purchases? They've been silent since they announced the change.
They presumably want to see the change in actual sales numbers before simply deciding, normally over a few months.
I still don't think that's the move, the longer they take to properly address this the worse it gets.
How are you defining 'properly address,' though? Do you really think companies of any meaningful size making what are very predictably unpopular changes rush to undo them simply because there is immediate negative reaction to the decision?
As they wait for sales number my money is going elsewhere... I mean this was the stupidest choice this close to tax time last year this time I woulda spent min 150 on alacarte stuff as came out this year dnd beyond didnt even cross my mind as a possible spending venue

This is my MO as well. I buy every hardcover core and supplement book as well as campaign setting books in the settings I care about. I only buy adventures if I plan to run them or if they seem especially interesting, again in hardcover. What I buy digitally...an adventure I'm currently running (which I also have in hardcover), a supplement (after I have purchased the hardcover) that has a lot of stuff I want available to my players (EG; TCoE), and any a la carte character options, magic items, spells, and monsters that I feel are important to run my game. I'm old, so I like books. I like reading them, I like collecting them, and I like seeing them on my shelves. I also like that they are MINE. If I stop using DDB all of the digital content is gone, so it's not practical to buy everything on DDB...just what you need to play on DDB.
It's rounding the end of May and there's been no public response from the company or Wizbro on this. We barely hear from community managers and moderators, and even with their interaction there's no actual guarantee that anything will be addressed or listened to. "I've passed it up the chain" or "your feedback is being submitted" tells us nothing about an actual conversation happening with the people who can make the changes.
I've submitted my thoughts respectfully to customer support, interacted on socials, posted in forums, and nothing. I posted the thought on a compromise being 'pack-only' purchases to guarantee larger minimum transactions, something people will likely be able to monetarily digest more easily; as well as that all physical books ship in wrapping with a single use code so we can get the bundle deal from supporting our FLGS and getting alt-covers.
I've already cancelled my subscription and put the removal of a la carte in the reasoning. I don't plan on buying anything else from this site and seems the majority of people who are aware of the issue feel the same. I was practically a walking ad for DDB cause of how much I praised the accessibility, low barrier to entry, and convenience. Now I don't trust them anymore.

Yep, ditto. Just cancelled. DDB just sunk to 0/10, would not recommend. Unless the a l carte is returned.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
DId you know? The DDB marketplace has REMOVED the option for purchasing one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters "a la carte". Now you ALWAYS have to buy the ENTIRE book instead.

My order history shows absolutely no history.
When you click on your order history you now have to click another link under that tab to find orders placed before April 30 2024.
For me, the order history tab on the "my account" page shows my pre-may orders.
Hey did anyone notice if you go to the Sources page it now shows "In Library" for books you own!?
So happy to see it, wish they had announced it!

Or they're hoping that the hatred will die down. Just means I won't be spending any money on them for a good while. If ever again.
