The thing is that it's entirely possible for them to have the mechanics/editions separate. Roll20 is pretty much throwing shade on them by saying they will have the rules and mechanics separate for us to choose what to use. They are making me wish I discovered roll20 first to spend my money on. Maybe roll20 just have a digital team.
Roll20 haven't actually said that. All they've said is you can use the 2014 sheet or 2024 sheet for a character, but this may be referring only to the "style" of sheet. I do hope it means you can choose the rulesets, but nothing has confirmed that.

They have said specifically on both their reddit and FAQ page for the Jumpgate update, the sheet you have selected will determine which spells and items you get. The 2014 gets 2014 spells, the 2024 gets 2024 spells.

Makes ya wonder why D&D Beyond can't do it. 🤔

That would be great, honestly.
I have been wondering if this is an attempt to shove off from the spaghetti code that has been created over the years, starting with the rush job that many old devs have stated happened when they were building the site that simply made some features impossible to work. Roll20 was able to take its time and therefore doesn’t have to deal with the same problems with their toolsets, but DDB has had to struggle with it since day 1.
Of course, this could all simply be the mode they have chosen to drive sales to new books. What do I know? 🤣
+1 a simple toggle like for the other content would be simple, but I guess DNDB just thinks $$, shame since I love and loved this game for years (playing since 3.0).
This is completely unacceptable. There are so many options other than completely removing content we've paid for and continue to pay for. If this change goes through, DDB will literally be useless to me and I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Once upon a time I had to decide where to buy my sources, here or Roll20 (because I wasn't buying them digitally twice). I chose here, because what if I wind up wanting to play a game on another VTT?
Now here I am still only playing on Roll20. And losing my access to character sheets that function with the campaigns they are actively playing in.
Simply piling on here to share my dissapointment, and incrementing the counters for this thread. Hopefully D&D Beyond / WOTC is paying attention to the anger and frustration they have created.
Sucks to suck, Wizards. I may not have the time to homebrew all of my spells, but I do have the time to download a few pdfs, and that is what I'll be doing. Have fun with your sinking ship of 2024e.

Pokemon Master, Hero of Hyrule, Jedi Knight, Minecrafter, Celestial Being Beyond Comprehension, Bounty Hunter, Salmon Runner, Nailmaster, Yarn Yoshi Enjoyer, Animal Lover, Math Rock Roller, Nerd King in all Aspects.
(And, of course, Dragon Tamer. It is in the name, after all)
To DnDBeyond staff: This is ridiculous. I have a master subscription. We're in the middle of a campaign, we shouldn't be forced to make these changes mid-stream, and we certainly shouldn't be forced to do all YOUR work by recreating the 2014 content in the homebrew creator. YOU need to create the 2014 content as a separate sourcebook that anyone can apply. WITHOUT charging for it. Just like I could replace the Dragonborn from the PHB with the Dragonborn from Fizban's and have it apply the rules, I should be able to pick the 2014 version.
You know... a normal company sometimes makes big one-time losses to pull people into subscriptions. Look at the Xbox game pass. Brand new titles that cost millions and millions for a measly €12 subscription.
WOTC is the other way around. Ask for hundreds of Euros (Dollars, same difference) in the short term, so they lose subscriptions in the long run. It's so backwards.

Ok so maybe getting my characters and stuff off ddb was easy, but the 5 full books I have and elemental evil I can't find a way to download. (And EE doesn't even show up in the sources menu) I know that I could do the same thing I did for the other stuff, but doing that for every spell and monster is really annoying and there's gotta be an easier way. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Note: For a la carte and homebrew races, feats, backgrounds and the monstrous compendiums, they're short enough that you can just click the "print" button on your browser (not sure if it works on browsers other than chrome) and save the page as a pdf. (And the character creator has a built-in feature in the "What's Next?" tab of the creator where you can save your character as a pdf)

- I buy a movie ticket - The theater says lol actually we're showing a different movie on that screen. Want to see your movie? Pay for a new ticket, no refunds.
And if you decide you know what, I'm gonna find another way to see this movie I ALREADY PAID FOR...
Well, if you've noticed posts disappearing from this thread, it's because WotC is stripping anything that even begins to reference (as I'm sure this one will be) finding other ways to use the product YOU ALREADY PAID FOR.
I mean, if they wanna cry and simper about copyrighted content (even when people aren't doing anything to actually violate said copyright), I guess they really do want a lawsuit.

I got my post removed / a warning for mentioning this, so be careful. They're trying to gaslight people into thinking they don't have rights to use content they paid for.
Been a master tier member from the start, got all the official content, In the middle of running a several year campaign, I do not want to swap.
Wotc have deminished any good faith I had left and if this goes ahead, well, I look guess i am looking for a new system to play. If I have to restructure and rebalance things, may as well use the opportunity to go all the way.
They spent so much labor on Project Sigil and fired so many others that they couldn't get this job finished before Blackrock's precious financial quarter deadline.
Utter incompetence & greed from anyone with actual say on the business side.
Tell Blackrock and all of their fellow boomer money piles to take the L & let the Beyond team finish the job.

Take LEGAL material action, including sub cancellations, lawsuits, criminal &/or civil complaints and/or spreading the word, because idle threats do not work on someone who's used to having people commit, or attempting to commit, actual crimes against admins on a daily basis on the Blizzard forums because they lost a PVP WoW fight & blamed the devs.
I've been operating a campaign out of dndbeyond almost since it got started, my players have gifted me source books and campaign books so we could run through this site. We will no longer be using dndbeyond once this change occurs. We will no longer spend money to purchase digital items from dndbeyond as we no longer trust the assets we purchase are the assets we will be able to have continuous access to. If dndbeyond backtracks on this, we may continue to keep the subscription on and finish out this last campaign. Either way, no additional money will be spent as WE DO NOT TRUST WotC anymore.

I'll be moving away from the site and system if there isn't a course correction. It doesn't seem like I'm alone.
