Even if we had to add a mundane weapon as a "Magic Item", as long as they provided a set of base damage fields (number of die and die type, damage type, and range) to the from-scratch magic weapon creation form, that would be enough. This is really an important feature for actual "Homebrew" where we are using non-WotC supplements and modules, and personal creations.
You did indeed say that. I saw you said that even before I posted. But my post was feedback to DnDBeyond expressing my opinion to them. I don't really expect anything, I didn't even expect the "containers" feature so soon, but this suggested feature is high on my wish list.
As others have said, sorry to necro this. But I'm still having this problem in 2022. Long story short my player (and girlfriend) is using a homebrew Ocean Domain Cleric subclass which improves her damage when she uses a Trident. It changes the 1H damage from 1d6 to 1d8 and the 2H from 1d8 to 1d10. However, I don't believe there is a way to implement that through only the subclass features, so I thought "oh I know, ill just homebrew up a quick Improved Trident or something with bigger base damage die." Well, guess not. I tried to "replace damage type" and set it as 1d8, didn't do anything. Tried to add "Melee weapon attack" with 1d8, nothing. I suppose I could make it a flat +2 weapon but I didn't want to give her another +2 to hit.....Now that WotC is absorbing DnD Beyond, hopefully all these easy and cool suggestions and features I've seen on SO many threads finally get some attention.
right now the best you can do is put the correct damage in description, and clearly state that the base damage should be ignored, use custom dice roll instead.
End of 2024 now. I'm guessing any new update on homebrew will be after the new rules are fully updated? I feel less bad after spending an hour trying to figure base damage change only to see it has been 4 years of waiting for others.
Wow. 2021 and this is still an issue!
I did say not to expect it until 2024.

3 years, damn, this wouldnt even be a hard fix, unless the devs are bad at programing.
They only got permission to do it from DDB about a year ago.

3 years later and they STILL haven't fixed this, so it seems pretty apparent they don't care.
Homebrew has never been a high priority. There are still things in the PHB and DMG they don't support yet...
How the **** is this still not possible?!
See my previous comment.
Development has always been limited, and improving their play tools and supporting official content comes first.

Only two more years...
You looked at their join date, not the date of the post. It’s only been months since they posted that.
