There's actually a little trick you can do, if you want to homebrew a weapon that uses an alternative stat for the attack and damage rolls. It's not ideal, but does allow such weapons to be created for now.
Create a new magic item from scratch.
Base Item Type: item
Magic Item Type: Wondrous Item
Give the item a description.
Save.
Add a modifier with the following:
Type "Natural Weapon"
Subtype of one of bludgeoning/piercing/slashing.
Set the ability score to the one you want the "weapon" to use.
Set dice count and die type.
You can put a value in the fixed value fields as well if you wish to add more damage (say for a +1 weapon).
Save the modifier.
Save the item.
If you want to add an attack bonus as well, you can manage that by adding a further modifier: Type:Bonus / SubType:Natural Attacks / Fixed:1
As a note - please only use this for private homebrew items. We don't want to see a whole pile of "Warlock Hexblade sword" submissions please!
Thank you! It works... but this only allows to create a custom attack from the item instead of the character sheet, so it still has the problem of not allowing you to add another type of damage to it... so if I wanted to add 2d4 fire damage, I can't use Type: damage->subtipe fire->2d4, because it does nothing (as it is not a weapon anymore). Ofc I can make the equivalent and add 1d10 (more or less same average as 2d4), but it will register as 2d10 slashing instead of 1d10(slash)+2d4(fire). So yeah the base problem is still there...
I'm not sure if this is the correct place to put it, but when you create a homebrew item, and try to add an immunity, if you add the "petrified" choice. Well it is listed as "petfified" to be blunt haha.
Not sure if this has been mentioned, but for Feat creation there are no tags for "Magic" or "Spell" or "Spell Casting". These would seem like they would be quite useful to have.
I was trying to add some medieval/early renaissance black powder weapons. Is there any plan to allow homebrewed creation of base-weapons and base-armor rather than just magical adaptations of existing gear?
is there a way to link content such as monsters to campaign notes?
Since this is the homebrew thread, I'll add that you can't (yet) use tool tips for homebrew, but you can use the URL link in your notes; same with links to sections of adventures.
I'm trying to create a +1 Vicious weapon (hand crossbow) and can't seem to get it to work. Any advice?
Currently I have a +1 hand crossbow and a vicious hand crossbow on my character sheet, which works, but having all the info in one weapon rather than having to switch back and forth between the two would be better.

You should be able to use the Vicious hand crossbow as a template, and add the modifier for Bonus-Magic-Fixed 1.
How do I modify a weapon's damage dice (e.g., base longbow is 1d8, I need a longbow with 1d10)? Thanks!
Currently you can't. It's a feature that has been requested multiple times (including by me), but so far no clear word on if/when it will be implemented. I did ask about it the ability to change weapon properties, damage type, and damage dice in the thread for the last (March) developer's update. During the update, Badeye said he thought that was already possible, but that he would check on it. Given what he said when he answered the question, though, I'm not sure he understood that the question was about more than just weapon properties (finesse, light, thrown, etc.), but also about damage type and damage dice. [weapon properties like finesse can now be changed, and that improvement came through just a few days before the developers update video.]
Hello! recently bought my stuff on D&D beyond and trying to dive into it to convert our word documents onto Beyond for a homebrew campaign. Is there any way to Copy a race template and then edit it? or View it like you created it but then not be able to edit it if it's from a book? I tried creating from scratch but once I got to the Dwarven Resilience trait I wasn't able to figure out how to get the advantage to work only on Poison saving throws, when I create a level 1 dwarf using the basic race, the character sheet specifically mentions that it only works for poison, and seems to interact that way as far as i can tell.
I would like to recreate it or look at the source code? (or path) that let it interact that way on the character sheet, I'm asking hoping there is way to view basic races or copy them so I can waste my own time trying to address my own problems as I run into them, since my google-fu seems to be really weak when it comes to the Homebrew Race creation feature.
would another alternative be trying the homebrew content page and searching for a race that has dwarven resilience? would I be then able to edit or view someone else's work to see how they got it to work?

I apologize if it's a stupid question.
Have you tried starting your homebrew by copying one of the dwarven races? That should let you see how dwarven resilience is set up.
well, that fixed it. that should be able to answer all my future questions as I should be able to figure out how to do everything by just looking to see what the professionals did.
cannot for the life of me remember why I couldn't figure out how to get that to copy the first time lol. Thanks for telling me that it works!
I'm working on a magic item that can cast spells once per long rest, but there seems to be no way to specify once per long rest? I can set it up so the weapon has charges and each spell costs a charge, but I want the spells to be usable once per long rest each, as opposed to, for example, being able to cast one spell three times with it.
Additionally, I've noticed that setting charges to restore on a long rest doesn't seem to trigger properly when actually taking a long rest in the character sheet. For example, I homebrewed a magic item to mimic the Magic Initiate feat, with the cantrips being at will and the first-level spell costing one charge for the magic item and the charge reset condition being set to long rest, but when I click "long rest" in the character sheet, the charges don't reset.
I wanna create my own spear with another dice type then the original has. I have been able to add the dices for the magical damage and for the new primary stat, but the old 1d6 is still there, how can I remove this? (this also apply's to base armor stats)
2. Is there a way to create basic items that are not magical?
I want to create really basic common item in dndbeyond so we can easily keep track of carrying capacity, but when I go in to the item creation I'm forced to selected magic item and magic item type, and none of them fit what I am trying to create. Is there any way to not having to deal with that?

Why is the "Replace damage type" only for radiant? What if I want to do a sword that does 2d6 fire damage and that's it (lightsaber for instance)

Are you sure you didn't set it to once/day? It's different, try to check it
No, I definitely set "reset condition" to "Long Rest." Thank you though!
