You seem persistently combative and condescending. You misunderstand my point.
DDB obviously has a design department, but character design is a whole dedicated subset of that. People spend their entire lives being character designers and artists, making a portrait creator would have to leverage those skills. You can't just put a UX designer on that, that's not how it works.
Also, I never said drawing portraits is harder or easier, I don't know why you're bringing that up. I don't think they design their own portraits, I'm pretty sure that artwork is all supplied by WotC, as is almost all the other art.
Right now you are trying to defend a point who do not have a need to.
I have no idea what this means. My point was that this would be a complex, labour intensive feature and so tempered expectations are best. in fact, I'm agreeing with you from earlier on in the thread.
It is about the fact that people are never satisfied with what they have. Even if you create a software with 100,000 possibilities... You will ask more !
You were literally saying the same thing I was; that it's hard to make a tool like this that everyone will like, and that takes time. You also said:
it is a lot of time going down the road for a thing that may not be that much of a deal to begin with. so in the end, i will not be putting my hopes to high on this one.
So I'm honestly not sure where we disagree, but I'll summarize my point again:

So I'm honestly not sure where we disagree, but I'll summarize my point again:
This would be a labor intensive tool to develop
It would require a lot of art and code work
It will be hard to make everyone happy
There'll probably be a long wait
It'd be an amazing thing to have
Do we not agree on those points?
Labor intensive, i do not agree on. i dont think its that intensive when you consider the artists do not need to make off the hook drawings. nor are they amatures who takes 3 hours just to design a beard. i think they can do a full sketch of about a hundred different beards for dwarves in about 2 hours. the same way i have seen someone draw a sketch from a scene from critical role in its entirety in about 30 minutes. and it was amasing to begin with.
lot of art, i agree with, lots of coiding, not at all... i've done my own software that does this in about 2 days work and it is coded pretty darn well with Z axis, layers miroring and rotation as well as drag and drop. i'm alone and an not an expert in programming. so coding is not an issue. artwork as always been the issue.
it wont be hard to make everyone happy when all they require is to draw stuff for every races. but its true people will ask for more everytimes. that alone doesn't mean people will be mad at them. just that they will hope they dont stop there.
knowing DDB, yes its gonna be very very very long and it will be that long for no reasons. because perfectionnist.
now your last point we agree, it's gonna be an awesome addition.

This would be great! I am trying to get a Dragonborn character made online since I'm not very good at drawing, but there just aren't a lot of Options. Hero's Forge is nice, but I'm not planning on buying the mini, and the lack of color is a bit of a bother. This would be great, Please do this dndbeyond!
you may want to check out this as well https://www.epicgenerator.net/register.php?ref=stonefaerie86@gmail.com I've been messing around with it and was able to create a couple pretty cool things Im waiting for my free packs to get some add ons but the additional packs are fairly priced and gives you the option to use on anything because you paid for them.
there is a kickstarter for just this very thing in progress called Portrait Workshop by Worldspinner LLC. I'm not going to be able to post the link (pretty sure that breaks a few rules), but if you look for the kickstarter you should find it!
That way, nobody has to worry about trying to implement a portrait creator in DDB since, as Dave has said, it would require a whole different set of skills to implement.

Trying to get your physical content on Beyond is like going to Microsoft and saying "I have a physical Playstation disk, give me a digital Xbox version!"
its not to say they can't accept other things in DDB. i mean they already are using Fantasy names generator for their name generating needs. they can probably easily add a portrait generator if need be.
that said, we're talking about a feature we'd want in DDB, not a feature others can give. otherwise i could tell you DDB has done nothing that we cannot already do on other sites, so why creating DDB if those needs were already created by others ? no we're not here to promote other web sites. there are tons of Dressing Games out there and they are are well worth using to make multitudes of characters. so its not like we didn't have options already. but i do would like this ability from an official D&D stand point !

Please for the love of god make this a thing! I have been searching the internet for ages and still haven't found a good one. My characters die to fast for me to have time to draw them.
I have been searching for a D&D appearance generator for so long, and I have only found one okay-ish one. It doesn't quite have those same customizable options
There is no D&D ones out there, for the main reason being that WotC usually sue everyone trying to use their races. so don't expect them to find dragonborns or halflings or tieflings...
but there are a lot of them that enable basic customisation that allows the creations of such races by say adding horns to a character reguardless of body types.
i use the ones made by Rinmaru Games, they are all clothing games as they call it. basically you are creating dolls and put clothes on them. but they have a pretty god darn good selection of "games" that they use, they have sci-fi, they have fantasy, which has a good selection too. i think other softwares i've seen a re quite severely lacking, but they are quite good compared to others. so yeah. just search for Rinmaru games.
ePic Character Generator on Steam is also a good choice, but i think you need to pay to get more fantasy stuff.

No traction since last year. I hope beyond hope that with the new DDB Player app we'll eventually get a really polished avatar/character designer. One with multiple angles and not just front-facing options. Here's to hope!
I know I've been wanting to commission someone but I've just never had the money, so I've been hunting for good avatar creators and things like that but it's hard to find them

D&DBeyond should have a portrait creator for sure
hey man used the creator, great stuff man, can you add more horn options for us teiflings?
Would be a nice to have, but I'd much rather prefer other features as VTT or more functions for the mobile app.
