Being this a digital medium, in contrast with the problem of replicate each meassure on paper, maybe you could let users to select the Metric system for distances, weight, etc.
I have played dungeons for several years, and I still strugle to realize how tall is a giant in feets!
This would be great, but if it's a direct conversion, you'l have to deal with annoying numbers. 5 feet for example is 1, 524 meters, so maybe if they change it to 1,5 meters it would be easier to understand on a glance, though you'll miss a few centimeters here and there.
Yep! It's nice idea but not new :) Many players from Russia and CIS community though about it and maybe some use it. But if you tell about complementary rules I think it's hard to be real. I think it's can be only as homerules and etc.
It would be great, but it won't happen unless WotC releases official content for it. However, you could always use a browser extension that auto-converts.

This is how it was done on previous editions (at least when translated to Brazlian Portuguese) 5ft were 1.5m.
Even though I live in a metric system country I really have a hard time when a player says, so, I'll stop 15 m from the giant; I have to stop and think how that translates to feet because every mechanic in the game is calculates in feet not only characters/monsters size and weight.

IMO not a viable solution for much of the European market. Most of the DnD community speak English, many of us can't hack translations because they are inherently inaccurate, BUT we have grown up in a metric society and we need a quick-and-dirty converter that frees us from having to use pen and paper to do especially lbs to kg conversions, where things quickly go wrong if you use the .5 kgs to 1 lb scale. The ft to m is a bit easier.
Whilst I'm Australian and have grown up with the Metric system, I have never seen the need to convert D&D over. The current rule set has been tied in so closely to grids/hexes and being able to map out effects. Let's take Fireball as an example - 20 ft. radius (so from the centre point, that is 4 squares to the left and 4 to the right). 20 feet is 609.6 cm... So each grid square is a distance of 152.4 cm. When you are working in metric and still using a grid it becomes extremely hard to measure. This is why the 1 square = 5 feet whole number rhetoric is good.
The only time I have ever converted is when designing a characters weight because I like to make sure I haven't made my character skin and bones or so overweight (yet their are an athletic fighter...)
Ahh, but some of us do not work in grids or use tabletop layouts for most of the game. When it is all in our minds, the need for converting suddenly rears it's ugly head.

Ahhh, but to this I would say: "You can put yourselves in the characters mindsets where Gods and Magic and mythical creatures exist, but can't then use the system of saying I move so I'm 30 feet away?" :P
Though Sorce is right in that the game has been designed around ye olde Imperial system, it would still be great to have a quick way to switch them over for reference - no matter how much D&D I play, I live using the Metric system and it will always be that much clearer to me. I would find it considerably easier and quicker to imagine how tall/small something might be, or just how far that Wizard is launching their Fireball spell.
And whilst people mention browser extensions and the like, it's also worth considering that the DDB team intend to release a full mobile app.
Gamer, Japan lover, illustrator, gerd (geek + nerd = gerd,, :D ), love exploring the non tourist areas of Japan. My first time playing RPG 1986 I think and i got hooked right away and I am still playing and get frustrated when I can not play :D And since I often go to Japan and spend plenty of time there I miss out of precious RPG time.

That would be great. By the way, are there any plans to add other languages? Spanish and French?

Good luck and have nice dice! :)

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile.
@Kelhendros , for this thread you deserve a shake of hand, at the very least.
One more from me
It's a great idea, WotC would have to round values but I also struggle with this. Better to have approximate metric values than unintelligible imperial values. At this point I use an extension that converts automatically (as a tooltip or directly). It works great, and it already works here on Beyond: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/autoconvert-auto-currency/pbghjbbdfkjffaalmcfgelakmeckapnd/related?hl=en
This is how it looks like: https://www.dropbox.com/s/w1iz9p96847l18l/Screenshot 2017-03-21 14.47.27.png?dl=0

Rafael_G Has a great point!
Not everybody uses Browsers with extensions (like Chrome); If it was Built In by default into Beyond tho.... would be nice.
.
I think this is the answer you guys were looking for! http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/news/localization
WotC just announced localized products!
