Edited by four different people. Still has Grammatical and spelling errors, yet I am still expected to pay an additional price to have digital access to it [I'll add that I Have a scanner five feet from me that I could use to scan the pages, and make my own digital database.]
Why haven't you scanned it already then? Seems that would solve all your problems.
Okay, I'm going to break down everything I said in the post because it doesn't seem like you read it.
Let's start with the Dungeon Master's Guide. Physical cost that I have already paid: $58 CAD, digital cost that DDB wants me to pay [on top of what I've already paid]: $29.99 [it doesn't say CAD or USD].
Edited by four different people. Still has Grammatical and spelling errors, yet I am still expected to pay an additional price to have digital access to it [I'll add that I Have a scanner five feet from me that I could use to scan the pages, and make my own digital database.]
Moving on to the Monster Manual, I paid: $58 CAD. The digital cost I am expected to pay is $29.99. Now, the Monster manual was edited by one person, and only contains ~154 Monsters [compared to the more than 400 in the Tome of Beasts, which costs the same]. Still has spelling and grammatical errors.
Out of the Abyss costs a little more than the others, it is $63.95 CAD. DDB expects me to pay $24.99. As I mentioned earlier, spelling errors and grammatical errors are still present, with three editors.
And the PHB costs $57 CAD [once again, already have a physical copy], and $29.99 on DDB. Four editors, previous issues are still present.
That means that, in most cases, WotC is asking people to pay more than half the physical cost for digital copies [that are still rife with errors, I'll add] of books people already have. I fail to see how this isn't a clear issue. Why wouldn't I be able to transfer my physical copies of books I've already bought to DDB? Why is WotC expecting people to spend upwards of $100 on top of the games they've already purchased for access to maps with a usable resolution?
It's a service. Don't see the value, don't buy it. Plenty of people do see the value. The books have no value without the content other than the paper they are printed on. The value is in the content. You license content, you don't own it. If you buy a book at a book store, they don't give you the e-reader copy free, nor do they give you the audio book version free. You are licensing the IP, plain and simple, like putting software onto more than one computer, you have to buy a license for each computer.
You aren't "expected" to buy anything, there is no exclusive content, so if you don't want to use the service, then don't.
As for the usable resolution, you are welcome to go to a print shop, have them scan the book, and print whatever size you want (or keep the digital file), that is granted as part of the license. You can also scan all the info and use it digitally yourself all you want. But if you want to use these services, with supplied content, you have to license it.
And I am completely lost as to what editing has to do with any of it.
If I've paid $55+ for a book, and there's more than one editor, there's no reason for there to be spelling errors.
If I've already paid for a book, why then would I not be able to transfer that onto the 'service' they've set up specifically for those book?
Complaining to Curse about the spelling errors makes no sense, and if that's all you care about, maybe this isn't the hobby for you?
And oyu totally can transfer your license! Sell the book and use the money to buy Beyond.

Why are you complaining about the content of the physical books? That has NO bearing on DDB. In fact, on DDB those spelling errors either already are, or can be, fixed. Curse can't control the level of editing done to the physical editions
DDB is not WotC. In order for you to use content from the PHB in DDB, you have to pay a licensing fee because DDB is not legally allowed to provide that content to you. So you are paying for two things:
DDB's work to digitize the PHB, because WoTC did not do this for them
The license fee that WoTC requires you to have to use this digital content
If you don't like how WoTC makes 3rd party pay licensing fees for their content, take it up with WoTC.
Correct, My apologies for my error. However, According to WotC they've contracted Curse to make the DDB. Curse may have developed and they should be maintaining the project, but they by no means own it.

On the topic of "there's spelling and grammar errors in muh bookz!" complaint;
Show me one, literally just one, professionally published book of any type that has no spelling or grammar errors in its initial printing.
The reality is that humans make mistakes, and we are so used to that being a fact that our brains actually intentionally overlook mistakes when reading - we don't see the letters out of order, missing letters, missing words, repeated words, or the like. So we designed computer programs to find them for us... but those can't see other sorts of errors, like when I mean to type friend and instead get fiend, which a person likely won't notice if the context of the sentence tells their brain "that definitely says friend", and the computer won't notice because it's not misspelled and probably isn't grammatically incorrect since both those words can fit into the same place in a sentence.
So books have errors. Even after multiple revisions - books have errors.
ok i cant stand that anymore like most of us why do people still start some new post/thread without checking out if that subjet been discussed before ?
thats ridiculous that people complaint about grammar error in their book here when DDB first dont print the books lol and will probably fix those error when they will be toll about it in the bug section like its already the case
finding all kind of excuses to complaint about the price about the fact that you own a book with same content and you can scan it .... i must say do it, you can its your book ... then have fun with it loll maybe you can fix the grammar error too before reprinting it loll
hope that you know that here its not just scanned book they provide its content show in a different way and that is integrated in a character creator + character sheet + soon in a real and more complete campaign manager + you can share your content with friends in your campaign if you have a master tier subscription etc.. etc...
but yeah you have the books you can scan it ... then do it ... but you will still have to create your character the old way and do your calculation alone and write it down on those nice sheets you print
please for god sake is it possible to make a mega thread then move all those thread and post where people complaint about physical books vs digital content and price etc.. i know its going to be long and time consuming but maybe i hope maybe those not happy will read our argument and will keep their complaint on that unique thread
i'm sure lots of people think like me i saw some post here and elsewhere about being tired of the same old complaint over and over repeating them wont change the fact that you will still have to pay here to get the service and the content so you can use that payable content in the service (character creator / character sheet / campagn manager etc...)
Sorry for my grammar error and please dont start a thread about it again and again ;)
like someone said you always have the right to not buying anything here no one forces you to do so
have a good evening/day/ night whatever pleases you or where you are in the world
Wow, look here, yet another thread about how evil Curse is, how corrupt WotC is, how Hasbro is ruining the world and causing an escalation is global warming... blah, blah, blah... If you do not like what the awesome crew at Curse has done, what they have spent countless hours crafting and what they are charging for it, then by all means feel free to hit the road.
I for thank the Curse team for this awesome and amazing product and for the greatness yet to come. I am so confidant that I have a Master Tier sub for 1 year and my wife has a Hero sub for a year. Love this keep up the amazing work Curse!
I agree with the master thread. One big common complaint FAQ, and any time a new one pops up, the mods link to that and then lock the new thread so it will die.
I'm so frustrated with these posts, I can't really respond to the points politely anymore, so I'll leave it at that.
This game requires reading. Most people who play it are pretty studious by default. Use that brainpower you statistically have and use the search bar. Every issue you have mentioned has been addressed numerous times at length. I believe in you.
I have the hard copy of the books. But to use the DND Beyond I have to buy the Digital copy as well at almost the same price? I think this is wrong. Drive thru Rpg has a price for hard copy, digital only and both. I think the wotc folks have been too to many marketing meeting. I will be cx'ling my Beyond acct as soon as my month is up.

except that this isn't a WOTC site it is a Curse site, just like FG is not WOTC, nor is roll20, who were both charging msrp for the digital content until Curse came along and worked out the pricing deal that they got, which from all accounts was no small accomplishment.

and hopefull someone (admin) will do something about those repeating complaint thread they are everywhere
Aww TiBBy, but it's so much fun to have this conversation every day! And to explain to people that it's about licensing and that it's about value and not about "muh books" and what people are entitled to.

lol yeah its a good way to have time pass till we have that nice character sheet revamp ... cant wait to have it available, just hope they wont do it part by part like they integrated the background revamp and not everything as a whole (better interesting subjet) lets talk about that instead lol ;)
I see these threads are getting locked fast but heres my feed back and earnrest way to convey my thoughts, with the hopes of stimulating thought and discussion with it devling into some complaining thread.
Personnaly i think the model needs some massaging.
I know a lot of fan boys cry foul when someone complains about "double purchasing" and the ensuing "this is about accessing the product and not the produvct itself" yadda yadda.
I get it, its a web service; but it really doesnt take care of the "doubling dipping" feeling. And aside from the way consumers feel it also creates a barrier in service adoption. Its obvious its a concern for people, and again, a barrier to adopting the service.
That said i love this idea, and the website, and is something it regularly pay for, but its a very constraining service to adopt.
In my opinion, it would make far more business sense and financial sense if a subscription allowed the use of "physical media".
This faciliates the continued purchases of physical copies, along with removing the adoption contraints while generating revenue for this service.
*Wishing away* the feeling people have isnt going to work, you simply split your market base. And still i feel that the potentional revenue of that market being deencentiveized to joining (via ongoing subscription) , versus actually wanting to buy the books twice.
IMO its less about "assessing value in his/her own way" and more about a product thats making part of its market apprehensjve to adopt and thus make money from.
And thats not even grtting into the biggest, fastest browing market thats being somewhat missed, which is VTT (virtual table tops)....with this service self-proclaiming its focus it be mobile.
This subject has been discussed multiple times. The answers have been given multiple times. D&D Beyond is not made by Wizards of the Coast, it is made by Curse. Physical books or any codes that are suggested would never give Curse payment in any form, so how would the developers hope to get paid for their work on this site? Instead of making new threads on the subject, please search and find those threads that are already there.
I know this was already hashed in a different thread, but I think this needs to be addressed rather than let it fall off the radar. With the drop of Tomb of Annihilation, I am looking to use both the physical book and digital elements to run this campaign but honestly, I cannot see any benefit from double paying.
When it comes to my group, I am using Beyond to help keep my group's characters up to date etc, and I would love to have some of the digital options as well. I love the idea of Beyond but I feel like this is going to break the D&D community into 2 camps... Those who focus on Digital content and those who play from books. What about those who want to do both?
when you buy a Brady stategy guide for a video game, you get access to a digital copy.... I know this has overhead, but it just would make sense since you are paying 50 bucks or more for a book.
There are numerous threads on this subject. Please search for those instead of making new threads. Yes, it has been rehashed, and there is literally nothing Curse can do with WotC's physical books.
I feel like IF I have paid for the players handbook, I SHOULD get everything offered in the players handbook. I am building my character according to the handbook and already paid for it. I should not have to ignore putting in spells and writing them in after because people are greedy. There is so many free apps on the smart phone market that I can use that offer me what you fail to do. I want to support this site, put adds on the edges if you need to make money, DO NOT expect me to pay for simple content that I can find elsewhere for free and on my tablet easy to use. If Wizards of the Coast can not see the advantage of offering everything found in the players handbook free then they are making a huge mistake in ignoring this advantage.
And oyu totally can transfer your license! Sell the book and use the money to buy Beyond.
The most memorable stories always begin with failure.
In 5,000 years, after 200 billion threads, people will still be complaining that they have to pay for a service.

what would be nice is to be able to use info in the physical copies and import them as private homebrew content
