For the people who just suck at drawing, but also don't want to use other people's artwork, what do you all use to represent your characters? I had been using a character avatar creator from RinMaru games for several years, but with the death of flash, those games are no longer working. Hit me up with some suggestions!
This is a problem I also face, I used to use Heroforge but they no longer allow you to take snapshots unless your VIP so now I have to google black and white sketches and color them in photoshop, then I put them in Tokenstamp to make tokens. It's very time-consuming.
Going to second the confusion over HeroForge requiring VIP subscriptions to take snapshots, now?
Also...even if it does, somehow, you can still hit Print Screen or take a snippet and just use that. I never use the straight HeroForge screengrab for anything, I always edit myself a new icon or avatar image in Paint. There's plenty of ways to use HeroForge to get a close-enough rendition of many characters, though nothing will ever beat bespoke, commissioned artwork.
OMG! Guys/gals, there's this little app on your Windows 10 PC called Snipping Tool. Easier then taking a full screenshot.

I had thought about that, but unfortunately I don't trust a lot of those downloads. I've gotten viruses that piggybacked on flash downloads before, and I won't touch them anymore.
Seems the general consensus is heroforge. I hadn't thought of using it for pictures.

Sinpping tool is great, it's built into windows and is a simple way to save your whole screen or just a part of it. Much better than the old print screen method.
It is still in Beta, but you might like Portrait Workshop, they did a Kickstarter for it last year and I have previously backed their WorldSpinner Kickstarter that was well done:

I was just going through this thread to suggest Portrait Workshop too. I'm a KS backer of it, so do have access.
The graphics are fairly simple, but it specifically allows you to build your character from race, class and equipment choices - along with skin colour, hair style, etc. being customisable.
It is a phone app, but you can share your portrait as a separate file (e.g. to OneDrive/DropBox/etc.)

I’m also a backer and was also going through the thread for the same reason. I’ve created a few characters in it and it was easy enough to use. The customisation options were good enough to create a nice variety of portraits too.

You can still take a screenshot on hero forge. I just did and I’m not vip
Did you try downloading the flash file and running it on the standalone flash player/debugger?
Alternately, maybe this helps: http://dmheroes.com/

I just use the print screen on Heroforge. It gets around the photobooth feature being pro only.

Examples abound in this thread of folks who used HeroForge for their characters. Useful for inspiration, as well.

If you're into it, Second Life can also work well. It's a bit more of an investment than Heroforge, though.
Take a screenshot/snip of a mini you make in Hero Forge.

I like using Picrew, the site's japanese, so navigating is a bit tricky, but it has a ton (and I mean a ton) of different chara makers.
For example I used this one, to make a picture of my Drow Ranger

when you go into picrew on google you can select google translate in the right corner of your search bar and it translates it to japenese.
if thats helpful
