Does anyone know if there's any way to add a gemstone of a certain GP value to a character's inventory? I can't find a way to add it from the compendium.
If it’s a diamond, then add a diamond and change the value by customizing the item in your inventory. You can easily make a pearl worth 10,000 gp if you want to.
You can go to the 'Equipment' tab on your character sheet and click on 'MANAGE EQUIPMENT'. Then type for example 'amethyst' into the search bar and you will get offered to add it to your inventory. That works for every item in the DDB database.
If you want to add something that is not listed in the database, you can add a 'Custom Item' on the same 'MANAGE EQUIPMENT' tab.
I think the easiest thing is to add it under equipment - notes, where you have a freeform text field. Add it there, then if you need to, add actual items later on after session.
Seems that you need gems for certain things like some artificer infusions and spells (I imagine). Don't expect that free form notes would do the trick for these requirements...
Plus, I noticed that all the examples I'd type in to the Manage Inventory window (eg diamond, ruby) are all legacy items. Does that mean 2024 uses some other system? If so, what?

2024 should use the same system. One thing I noticed, when I went to the Basic Rules 2014 (for some reason my 2014 PHB no longer shows in the Sourcebook menu) I could not find diamonds. I could search it and find Legacy diamonds, and it says it’s in the Basic Rules. But actually finding diamonds, I couldn’t do. Just this:
Gems, Jewelry, and Art Objects
These items retain their full value in the marketplace, and you can either trade them in for coin or use them as currency for other transactions. For exceptionally valuable treasures, the DM might require you to find a buyer in a large town or larger community first.
So searching DDB, diamonds comes up, but just looking at the Basic Rules I couldn’t.
I assume 2024 is the same and if you need a gemstone for a spell component you can still get them like you could in 2014. Nothing on that end has changed
In the app, open up the character on the website, go to nventory, scroll ALL the way down past attunement to “other possessions” there is a text box under it where you can add anything you want by typing it in. If your doing gems, jewelry or art objects include the GPV.
I am updating (deleting/recreating) my 2014 characters to 2024 rules. (Before anyone asks, I have a master account and the new books in my library.) In the builder "Character Preferences" I uncheck "2014 Core Rules" and "Legacy" so it only uses the 2024 rules. I noticed that when trying to add gemstones it no longer brings them up from the search bar but can only be added manually under the "Add Custom Item" Selection.
Here is my question/s: - If I just leave the 2014 Core Rules and Legacy options checked will the Builder still use the 2024 rules by default or will this go back to the 2014 rules? - If I uncheck these options on character creation then check them when done, will it cause problems when leveling? - Is this just a bug where they forgot to add the Gems from the 2024 DMG in their rush to release it?
1. The 2014 and 2024 classes are basically treated like separate classes on the character builder with the 2024 ones at the top and the 2014 at the bottom to scroll down to. Even with everything turned on if you selected a 2024 class then it will level up as a 2024 character but if you need to choose spells or feats it will list the 2014 choices in the list with Legacy next to the name. Just choose the non-legacy version
2. Doesn’t make much difference if you turn on 2014 after creating your character except for adding the Legacy spells and feats back in
The two easiest ways to add gems are to use the text field all the way down below the attunement area of the character sheet, or just add "String" (or anything close to what you want) to the character, then rename that string to whatever you want, change its weight, value, etc.
Hey
Does anyone know if there's any way to add a gemstone of a certain GP value to a character's inventory? I can't find a way to add it from the compendium.
Thanks!
I haven’t tried but you might have to add a custom item from the character sheet equipment tab and name it gem and add a gp value in description?

Or there is that other possessions tab and they can just write it there.

That worked for me, thank you!

In order

Have played every version of the game since Basic (Red Box Set), except that abomination sometimes called 4e.
