Pangurjan: If we can toggle between the two versions it would make MMM more interesting to me. In general, I'm not sure I like some of the changes that WOTC has been making. I understand some of the reasons for the changes but I kind of like the "old stuff" For example I think that "floating ASIs" take all the individuality out of the various races. I don't want to start that discussion here but that is something I want the option to turn on and off. I have every book WOTC produced for 3E and would like to own all of 5E here on DnDB but I don't want to lose the "old stuff". So, I guess that is what I most want to hear from DnDB before I purchase. Because even now it seems that it is not clear if I buy MMM what will happen to the old versions.
Assuming you're talking about Big Stuff Only, so just the things WotC considers worthy of a separate entry, toggling is really no different from me telling my players verbally which Orc versions they can use and which ones they can't. Big Stuff Only won't change or delete the old versions since it's by definition stuff that gets a separate entry which means the original entry is preserved. I don't expect you'll really miss any of the rest. Just my personal impression, but it shouldn't be too far off. Rest easy, the roads seem clear and the skies empty.

Now we know - M3 is its own thing, you won't lose your old bad books, you have to pay for the New Hotness, and Volo's Guide is still the worst 5e book ever released by a country mile. Customers are now able to make a reasonably informed decision on whether or not M3 is worth obtaining for their particular situation. That's all it took.
That's all it ever needed to take.
Freaking jeez.
Disagree, Volo's intoduced the gobbos to5e and so that automatically makes it the best book by default. I don't make the rules, that's just the way it is. xP
Planeshift laughs in corner.
which one, and what's in it (and did they acknowledge the gobbo's supremacy or not?)
I honestly think the video posted would be a great way to implement errata versioning on the site. Literally just copy-pasting the text from the errata PDF's and having that listed in the dropdown. Nothing more though. It is much more of a pipe dream to have DDB update their site to support every version of all the races, classes, spells, etc in the character builder and letting you roll off of it. Would get in the way of all the more important updates and would cause issues with everyone not being on the same patch. There's been plenty of times when someone turned on homebrew for my games and they gave themselves the "BOON OF SPEED" as a feat, when they definitely weren't supposed to have it and I didn't ask for them to turn homebrew on. If we actually had every patch version of everything such issues would get so, so much worse.
Fair. I guess I'm lucky to have much more competent players or it's been a very minor issue. I'll conceed that it could get confusing for players who are unfamiliar with the tools or just aren't proficient in them. You'd have to walk them through the couple extra toggles but if they make the mistake themselves and you have to fix it I get the issue.
My suggestion was to have the old text in those boxes not the new text. The new text would be the default text but I suppose each will have their preferences.

But I have a feeling right now that the Call of the Netherdeep is not the book you are staring at on this road map, that you want to gnash your teeth and yell at me about, on our pre-order list, because Monster of the Multiverse also on our pre-order on our marketplace. Here's what I'll tell you about Monster of the Multiverse; one, it's a book that's meant to open up D&D lore a little bit so that you can use anything that you want in your homebrew world or even in the books that Wizards puts out. It you wanna use something from Eberron at Strixhaven, you know, this is a book that's going to be for you, it's also gonna be a really cool resource for newer players, like a one stop shop for a ton of monsters, a ton of player races. The big question that people have for us specifically around Monsters of the Multiverse is "Will this replace my previously purchased content?" It will not. This will absolutely not replace your previously purchased at D&D Beyond. We are currently working through with Wizard on the approach, you know, the nuts and bolts approach for making that work. So, wanted to put that rumour, that concern, to bed. Lots more details to come on Monster of the Muliverse, but that's a big one we really wanted to get across in the mean time. The bolded lines seem contradictory, unless it is only by virtue of it 'duplicating' rather than 'replacing.'
I feel "if you wanna use something from Eberron at Strixhaven" was just an example of someone who kind of just wants to homebrew something of a grab bag or mish mash of settings without being beholden to any one particular setting or other.

But why, exactly can't you do that now? I have never had any popup anything policing how I use any given creature in a session and not surprisingly so, since no such policing exists.
As someone who owns both books, I do not need a third book to be able to/allowed to do this. And frankly my campaign is neither setting but a homebrew setting.
It will not replace the Eberron entry but if it duplicates it then it is selling me content that I already own. To whatever extent it is doing that generally, based on what is being said, I do not need this new book.
If you don't want and need it, great, you get to save money. This book is designed to make the monsters more setting agnostic, so the lore is more general and not about how X monster came to be in the Forgotten Realms. If someone doesn't need that, and isn't interested in the new monster stat blocks, then awesome. For someone like me who wants the new stat blocks, then getting it is awesome.
Not every book will be fornevery person. For me this is great.- 28 new races to play as plus a bunch of new monsters. For me, E:RFtLW is of next to no value, but it is to others. That's good too.
What perplexes me is that "you can use Eberron stuff in Strixthaven" bit. I...don't get it. If I want to play Warforged in FR, and the DM/party is chill with that...I will. Why do I need to buy a book to do that? Perhaps when my copy arrives it will be more explanatory in how it helps, but it perplexes me how it is the book for me if I want to cross pollinate the settings.

Myself as a player and as a DM I from what I have seen from the leaks prefer the races as done in MMM, but with this being not over writing the old version of the races does scream that there will be a toggle switch on the home screen of character creation of whether PC race old versions or new versions which says we can keep all our old stuff and get the new stuff if we want it. The only question I have at this time is the reworking of the monsters/critters we have to throw out at the PC's where will the toggle be for that? But on the PC side of things who is going to want the old races compared to the new races, for example a Yuan-Ti Wizard with poison spray as a Charisma casting or swapped to Intelligence to better fit a Wizard?
Kotath it's clear that you don't see the value of the new book's premise. So you probably shouldn't buy it. I think it's there to support players who might feel they need some help opening up their setting to a level of creativity that you clearly already possess. That's good for you! You don't need it. Others might.

Because some people/tables make a difference between core published and setting specific content. By publishing this, WotC brings all these races into the core content. Interesting point is that Warforged will not be included in this book.

I felt that might be more about the "multiverse" part of the title, about stressing that settings aren't necessarily wholly contained and separate things that can't touch each other. Volo's and Mordenkainen's aren't, with the exception of pantheon stuff, thickly spreading on the setting specifics. Hobgoblins being martially inclined and warlike doesn't tie them to any given setting for instance, even if they might be very different in nature in whatever setting you want to use them and even if the writeup that provides that info is technically meant for the Forgotten Realms.

Regardless, if this really is primarily reprints (even if with different descriptions, but substantially the same stat blocks), why not simply and transparently say that?
Wizards asked they could take the lead on message for the book according to Joe, but as far as I can tell (I don't really follow what channels they still use to communicate, but I come across enough content that I should probably get the gist of it through others) there hasn't been much of a message either way.
That said, " just to add that line" is probably selling the book a bit short. We'll see how it lives up to the blurb on the WotC product page, but it appears at least to be an attempt at being comprehensive and consistent in approach.
Don't get me wrong. For all I know, there may well be a ton of actually invaluable new content. But that is not what we seem to be hearing so far.
I think it'll be more about compiling existing content and changing the presentation in order to make the multiverse aspect pop a bit more than about new crunch, yes.
